Watch Sherman's Funeral Here

Sherman Hoseth, age 93, of Ulen, MN, passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2024, at Sanford Hospital, Fargo, ND.

Sherman Harold Hoseth was born February 26, 1931, in Crookston, MN, to Arnold and Harriet Hoseth. He lived on a farm in rural Twin Valley, MN. He attended Banner (a rural grade school) east of Twin Valley. In 1949, he graduated from Twin Valley High School. That fall he attended North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND, for one year before going back to help his dad farm until the fall of 1951 when he left to attend the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, MN. While attending the U of M in 1951 and 1952, Sherman worked nights in New Brighton, MN at the ammunition plant which was run by the Minneapolis Moline Manufacturing Company. He received an AA degree in business. He later worked for Edward Dan & Company of Chicago, IL, where he sold hotel and restaurant supplies.

Sherman professed his faith in God at a young age and continued that faith until his death.

Sherman married Jeannine Hinkley of St. Paul, MN, in 1954 and then moved back to Twin Valley where they purchased a farm. In 1961, he earned an insurance license and sold insurance as a side line until the present time. Since the 1950's, he had a business of custom corn chopping and bailing straw and hay. From 1965-1968, he attended college at Moorhead State University in Moorhead, MN, taking night classes to complete his bachelor's degree in business management in 1968 and then continued night school and attained his master's degree in 1969. In 1970, Sherman began teaching at North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, ND, in the business department at the DECA advisor. He also purchased apartments and houses in Wahpeton, Breckenridge, and Moorhead as rental properties. Sherman retired from teaching in 1993 but continued to farm. He was a proud member of the Sons of Norway.

Jeannine and Sherman spent their winters in San Juan, TX. They enjoyed traveling, making many trips around the US, Alaska, Canada and Mexico, and even taking two trips to Europe. Sherman took a trip to Australia with his daughter Vicki.

After Jeannine's death in 2013, Sherman continued to spend his winters in Texas and summers at his farm before moving into Northern Lights Assisted Living Center in Ulen in April of 2023.

One of Sherman's joys in life was the family time spent at his cabin on Leaf Lake and his Texas home. His homes were always open, and he welcomed people to share coffee and his "goodies" over a good visit.

Sherman was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; and brother, Arnold Ray in March 2013; his wife, Jeannine in April 2013; and a sister-in-law, Erma Hoseth in March 2021.

He is survived by 6 children: Renee Sogge (David) of Glyndon, MN; Shiela Boettcher (Jari) of Hermiston, OR; Vicki Hoseth of Lakewood, CO; Blair Hoseth (Debbie) of Mahnomen, MN; Corey Hoseth (Cassandra) of Mahnomen, MN; and Melanie Quick (Kevin) of Borup, MN; 17 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
