Obituary

Shelby Jean Goodwin was born September 30, 1941 in White Earth, MN, the daughter of Stanley and Hazel (Hill) Goodwin. She grew up in the Rice Lake and Ebro, MN, area. As a young lady, she met and married Gerald "Skeeter" Fultz. The couple lived on the Iron Range in northern Minnesota and to this union four children were born. Skeeter died in 1970 and Shelby went on to raise her family. She proudly earned her GED and then her LPN in nursing from the Vo-Tech in Detroit Lakes, MN, in 1984.

On August 17, 1972, Shelby was united in marriage to Dale Danks in Bagley, MN. They made their home in rural Fosston together until the time of Shelby's death. Over the years, Shelby worked as a nurse in several local hospitals and as a home health nurse on the White Earth Indian Reservation. She retired from her nursing career in 2007, but continued to be a caretaker of many family and friends. Shelby was very recently diagnosed with cancer and passed away at the age of 68 on July 16, 2010 under the loving care of her family and the nurses at Cass Lake IHS in Cass Lake, MN.

Some of Shelby's favorite pastimes included berry picking, baking, shopping and spending time at their cabin on Long Lost Lake. She also enjoyed puzzle books and going to garage sales. Musically inclined, Shelby played many instruments including the organ at Rice Lake Area Fellowship Church for many years. From a young age, Shelby began her lifelong role as a caregiver, even learning sign language to assist with some of her family. Family was a very significant part in Shelby's life and she loved to be around them, especially her grandchildren. It could be said, Shelby was a loving, considerate and passionate lady, who always put others before herself. Her last words while passing on were repeated, "I love you, I love you". We are sure Shelby meant this for all her family and friends. She is loved and has been blessed and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Shelby is survived by her husband, Dale; a son, Tim Fultz; a daughter, Sandra Fultz, all of Fosston, MN; her mother, Hazel Goodwin of Bagley, MN; six grandchildren: Courtney, Cary, Emily, Erin, Jaclyn and Jami; two great-grandchildren, Hunter and Myah; four brothers: Robert Goodwin of Bagley, Randy (Carrie) Goodwin of Tenstrike, MN, Leonard (Valerie) Goodwin and Delton Goodwin, both of Bagley; five sisters: Yvonne Goodwin of Mahnomen, MN, Barbara LaFriniere of Bagley, MN, Cheryl (David) Erickson of Clearbrook, MN, Cindy Camp of Bagley and Joyce (Gary) Johannessohn also of Bagley; several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her first husband, Skeeter, Shelby was preceded in death by her father, Rev. Stanley Goodwin and two sons, Scott and infant Mark.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 2 pm at Faith Lutheran Church in Bagley, MN.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 20th from 5-9 pm with a prayer service at 7 pm and one hour prior to the service at Faith Lutheran Church in Bagley.
