Shawn Jones, age 28, of Ponsford, MN, died unexpectedly on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at his home.

Shawn Jerome was born in Fosston, MN, on June 3, 1997, the son of William Butcher Sr. and Nora (Jones) Butcher.  He grew up with his siblings in the Pine Point, MN, area where he attended school.  After high school in Park Rapids, MN, Shawn entered the workforce.  He worked as a prep and deli cook at the Shooting Star Casino for some time.  Shawn recently returned to the area after living and working in Fargo, ND.

Shawn will be remembered as a friendly, sassy individual who was willing to help when he could.  He had a great sense of humor and a wide collection of guns, knives and bow and arrows, both for show and purpose.  Shawn enjoyed playing X-Box and games especially with his son, Keyon.  He loved spending time with all his family and treasured every moment spent with his children.  He will be greatly missed by many.

Leaving behind to mourn his death are his children, Keyon and Ashlyn; his parents, William Butcher Sr. and Nora Jones Butcher, both of Ponsford; two brothers, William Butcher II, also of Ponsford and Benjamin Jones of Minneapolis, MN; sisters: Jolynn Jones of Onamia, MN, Audrey (Daniel) Warren of Mahnomen, Lisa (Andrew Andrews) Butcher of Red Lake, MN, and Corrine Jones also of Ponsford; aunts and uncles: Lenora (Charles) Jones of Park Rapids and Charles Jones of Michigan; and long time special friend, Amy Thompson.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lawrence and Helen Butcher and Thomas and Corrine Jones; a sister, Melissa Butcher; brothers, Marcel "Mark" Basswood and Joshua Jones; a niece, Kayla Butcher and nephews, Robert Brown and Darryl Mitchell in addition to several extended family.

Traditional Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, January 23, 2026, at The Old Pine Point School, Pine Point, MN. All-Night Wake Services will begin Thursday, January 22, 2026, at The Old Pine Point School at 5:00 pm with a ceremony beginning at 7:00 pm and will continue until the time of the service on Friday.
