Sharon Svenby, 70, of Forest River, ND, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Larimore, ND, surrounded by her family.

Sharon Jeanette Canfield was born to Ivan and Edith (Clark) Canfield on August 11, 1948.  The family made their home in Ladysmith, WI for the entirety of Sharon's childhood.  As a young adult, she spent time in Milwaukee, WI and Washington state. Sharon met Howard G. Svenby of Bejou, MN, and they were united in marriage on May 21, 1981.  The couple soon moved to Thompson, ND, and made their home there for several years before moving to Grand Forks, ND.  Sharon worked at Ladysmith Memorial Nursing Home in Ladysmith, WI, and later with Valley Memorial Homes in Grand Forks, ND.  She always loved working with the residents and caring for them, which was evident in the excellent care she provided. After her almost 40-year career as a nurse's aide. She retired due to health reasons in 2013.

When Sharon had quiet time, she enjoyed working on crossword puzzles, watching cooking shows and HGTV.  She greatly enjoyed spending time with her family and extended family.  Anyone could call her "mom" or "grandma."  It didn't matter if you were related, everyone was family to Sharon.  Her contentment with the simple joys in life were a true reflection of her gentle personality.  Sharon will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Sharon is survived by her children: Tonya (Ryan) Satterlund, Kimberly (Tony Murdock) Weld, and Clayton (Genevieve) Svenby; grandchildren: Sarah (George), Stephanie (Jon), Saddee (Chris), Karter, Anthony Jr., Glenelyn, and George; her great grandson, Sean; one brother, Darnell (Sherrill) Canfield; niece, Jayme (Tyler); sister-in-law, Judy Noyes; brothers-in-law, Kenneth (Linda) Svenby and Bruce Graham; nieces and nephews: Chad (JJ), Lisa (Dave), Dana (Garth), Jeana, Lance, Dakota, Robert (Sue), and Darrin (Naomi); and numerous cousins.  Sharon is also survived by special family friends: Terry and Judy Nelson, Julie Schreiber, Tammy (Nate) Peggar, Susie Nelson, Kathy (Kyle) Kesan, Shirley Johnson, and all of their children.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Ivan and Edith Canfield; her mother and father-in-law, George and Helen Svenby; her husband, Howard Svenby; sister-in-law, Darlene Graham; nephew, David Graham; many aunts, uncles and cousins; and her beloved cat, Thunder.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at the Anderson Family Funeral Home in Mahnomen, MN.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Immanuel Cemetery, Bejou, MN.
