Sharon Theresa
Remark
Dec 26, 1929 — May 28, 2018
Sharon T. Remark, 89, Fertile, MN, died Monday, May 28, 2018, at Fair Meadow Nursing Home in Fertile.
Sharon T. (Austinson) Remark was born in Fertile, MN, on December 26, 1929. Her parents, Joseph Austinson and Theresa (Knutson) Austinson were stalwart members of the Fertile community. Joe was an attorney in Fertile during the late 1800's and early to mid-1900's. Both parents spoke fluent Norwegian. Sharon was raised with an older brother, Oliver, who became an attorney in Ada, MN. Sharon graduated from Fertile High School and subsequently attended Concordia College where she graduated with a degree in Art Studies.
Sharon was a calm, mild mannered Scandinavian with a light-hearted sense of humor. She was a consummate caregiver who, in this day, could be termed "low maintenance". Sharon was an adaptable person and lived by the saying, "it could have been worse". She originally wanted to open an art store in Fertile after her graduation from Concordia College. Her father, Joe, counseled her instead to find a husband and raise children. Sharon took his advice. Sharon married Robert Remark (also an attorney) and raised four boys at the "Remark Ranch" on the shores of the Sand Hill River. She never gave up on her interest in art, following this passion during spare moments. In her younger years, Sharon enjoyed painting with oils and acrylics. In later years, her artistic interest shifted to making quilts. She was most proud of her quilt that won a blue ribbon at the Polk County Fair.
Sharon enjoyed her friends at Fair Meadow Nursing Home. These friends would always find a place for her near the front entrance/nursing station. If you were fortunate enough to have Sharon as your friend, you would know she was extremely faithful and would always lend a listening ear. If you experience a traumatic event, she would remind you "it could have been worse"…. And things may have indeed been worse, particularly if you did not have Sharon as your friend."
Sharon is survived by her four sons; Richard, Paul, Steve and Roger; six granddaughters and three grandsons.
Funeral: 10:30AM Monday, June 4, 2018, at Concordia Lutheran Church, Fertile, MN.
Visitation: One hour before the service at the church.
