Sharon
Houdek
Nov 18, 1952 — Mar 26, 2026
Mahnomen
Sharon L. Houdek (73) of Mahnomen, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 26, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
Sharon Leona Schouveiller was born on November 18, 1952, the second child of Edwin and Lorraine (Holl) Schouveiller. She grew up in Mahnomen County, where she spent her entire life and remained deeply rooted in the community she loved.
On March 2, 1973, Sharon was united in marriage to Alfred F. "Fred" Houdek. Together they made their home in Mahnomen and were blessed with six children. Sharon devoted her life to raising her family with unwavering love, deep faith, and devoted care.
Throughout her working years, Sharon held a variety of positions within the Mahnomen community. Early in her marriage, she served in the Treasurer's Office at the Mahnomen County Courthouse. She later worked at Kjos' Café, followed by Athmann Clothing and Home & Fashion. After her children were grown, Sharon returned to work cooking at St. Michael's School and later as a dietary aide at the Mahnomen Health Center, where she worked until her retirement in 2011.
Sharon enjoyed playing cards, crocheting, working crossword puzzles, music, and baking. She was known as a crowd cook and was a wonderful baker, always ready to prepare food for family gatherings, church events, or anyone in need of a good meal. She cherished time spent with her family, especially her grandkids. Sharon also found joy in afternoon drives, taking in the simple beauty of the countryside, with an occasional stop at the casino. If you knew Sharon, you knew she was a worrier too — but always out of deep love and concern for those she cared about.
Sharon was a pillar of faith in both her family and community. She loved deeply, attended service regularly, and served as a devoted prayer warrior for many. Her faith was evident in her daily life, guiding her through both joy and hardship. She lived her life as a true steward of God's love. She will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know and love her.
Sharon is survived by her husband of 53 years, Fred Houdek; her children: Lisa (Travis) Kaste; Allen (Sarah) Houdek; Tommy (Amy) Houdek; Gina Kemper; Steven Houdek; and Rodrick (Molly) Houdek; her 15 grandchildren: Kelsey (Dexter) Olson; Miranda (Jake) Wendland; Taustin (Randi) Kaste; Marcus (Kourtni) Houdek; Madison (Anthony) Praml; Luke Houdek; Cooper Houdek; Ava Houdek; Morgan Houdek; Tate Houdek; Lauren Kemper; Jayden Kemper; Quinn Houdek; Rose Houdek; and Henry Houdek; her two great-grandchildren: Kennedy and Cameron Olson; her siblings: Duane (Kari) Schouveiller, David (Joette) Schouveiller, Charles Schouveiller; and Ann (Rick) Toren; her father-in-law, Al Houdek; brothers-in-law: Peter (Terri) Houdek and Michael (John O'Dowd) Houdek; sisters-in-law: Louise "Weezee" (Doug) Gish, and Zetta (Mike) Thompson; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Lorraine Schouveiller, and her mother-in-law, Theresa Houdek.
