Obituary

Sharon Askelson, age 78, died Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at Villa Maria in Fargo, ND.

Sharon Rae Gill was born on October 15, 1939 to Wayne and Willa (Newton) Gill in Fargo, ND. She graduated from Felton High School in 1957, and went on to graduate from Dakota Business College. Sharon married Clair Askelson on June 13, 1959; and the couple was blessed with four children. Sharon worked at New York Life in Fargo, the Felton School, the Felton Elevator, and enjoyed many years owning the Felton Café. She also worked at the Shooting Star Casino, and was part owner of A&A Drug Testing until her retirement in 2017.

In her spare time, Sharon enjoyed sewing, knitting, quilting, burnt toast, gambling, scrapbooking, and Oreos. Most of all, Sharon cherished spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren. She was very active in the Felton Community. She held many offices in the church, a Wild Rice Watershed board member, Felton township board member, Clay County Cenus worker; and was involved with Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, and 4-H. Sharon was sure to make all her kids, grandkids and great grandkids events and happenings. She was the head groupie of the Sky Blue Water Band. She was an avid Minnesota Twins and Chicago Bears fan.

Sharon is survived by her husband, Clair Askelson of Felton; her four children, Scott (Jana) Askelson of Moorhead, Todd Askelson of Ada, Lori (Rick) Pladson of Hatton, and Betti (Daren) Tangen of Hawley; her grandchildren, Trent (Kaitlyn) Askelson, Brenna (Josh) Lindenmann, Andrew (Vanessa) Braaten, Jenna Askelson, Cierra (Bajram) Askelson, Jordan (Tyler) Crouse, Marissa Askelson, Daniel (DJ) Peebles, Wyatt Peebles, Courtney Rude, Lacy Nayes, Anne Pladson, and Kelsey Pladson; her great-grandchildren, Dominic, Brady, Braedon, Aspen, Addison, Isabella, Cole, Elena, Kyser, and Greta; her brother, Jim(Helen) Gill; and several nieces and nephews. Sharon is preceded in death by her parents, Willa and Wayne; and her great aunts and uncles.

A time of gathering will be held Sunday, February 25, 2018 from 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm with a prayer service at 4:30 PM at the Faith United Church in Ada. A memorial service will be held Monday, February 26, 2018 at 2:00 PM in the Faith United Church.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Davita Dialysis, Villa Maria Nursing Home and the great therapy staff, and her great doctors, Dr. Harmon and P.A. Penny Weston.
