Obituary

Shannon Burnette, age 52, of Naytahwaush, MN, died on Thursday, June 23, 2022, at his home due to natural causes.

Shannon Ray Burnette, was born as a twin, to Edward and Ada (Beaulieu) Burnette on May 23, 1970 in Mahnomen, MN.  He grew up in Naytahwaush surrounded by family, being one of the youngest of eight children.  He attended grade school in Naytahwaush then later in Mahnomen.  As a young man, Shannon began working and started his family.  Over the years, he was blessed with six sons: Shannon, Donovan, Chad, Blake, Karl and Aidan, and one daughter, Christie.   Shannon was usually working outdoors, spending much of his time, leeching, ricing, and making birch bark crafts. He was a self-taught mechanic and enjoyed working on small engines.  Shannon loved to tinker on cars and could fix nearly anything.  He was also employed at the Shooting Star Casino and the Naytahwaush Sports complex.

Shannon loved to go to the Casino and was always ready for a road trip. He was an avid hunter and fished in area lakes year-round.  By far, Shannon was happiest when he was with his family and cherished each of his children.  Even as his health failed, he remained positive and shared his smile with all those around him.

He is survived by his children: Shannon Burnette Jr., Donovan Burnette, Chad Messer, Blake Thurstin, Christie Jackson, Karl Burnette, and Aidan Burnette; his twin brother, Shane; brother, Terry; sister, Gina; sister-in-law, Mary; ten grandchildren; a special friend, Chris Connor; and many nieces and nephews.

Shannon was preceded in death by his parents: Edward and Ada; brother, "Butchy" Edward, and sisters: Cheryl, Noreen, and Julie; and several extended family members.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, June 28 at Samuel Memorial Episcopal Church in Naytahwaush.  An all-night visitation will be held at the Naytahwaush Sports Complex, beginning at 5:00 pm on Monday, June 27, 2022, with a prayer service at 7:00 pm.  Visitation will also be at the church on Tuesday for one hour before the funeral.  Burial will take place at Samuel Memorial Episcopal Cemetery.
