Shane
Bellanger
Jan 21, 1974 — Jan 26, 2026
Detroit Lakes
Shane Bellanger, age 52, of Detroit Lakes, MN, passed away on Monday, January 26, 2026, at Sanford Health in Fargo, ND.
Shane Patrick Bellanger was born on January 21, 1974, in Park Rapids, MN, to Roberta Bellanger and Louis Butcher Jr. He was proudly given his Ojibwe name, Wiidookaage Innini, meaning "Man Who Helps Others", a name he truly lived by throughout his life.
He attended Park Rapids High School and later worked at Shooting Star Casino. In 1991, he met the love of his life, Angela Blaine. While Angie attended college, the couple lived in the Fargo-Moorhead area, where Shane worked various auto mechanic jobs to support his family. The couple was united in marriage on September 15, 2001. They were blessed with two daughters, Mercedez in 2000 and Maddisen in 2004, who were the absolute center of Shane's world. The family made their home in Osage, MN, for many years before moving to Detroit Lakes in 2017, where they have lived since.
Shane dedicated more than 20 years of service to the White Earth Tribe, working in several departments including conservation, maintenance, the Boys & Girls Club, and most recently as a community health representative. No matter what his role, his focus was always on helping others and supporting his community.
Family meant everything to Shane. He was a devoted and hands-on father who treasured time with his daughters — tubing or cruising at the lake, traveling together, and faithfully showing up to cheer them on at their activities and sporting events. He was especially proud to watch them compete at their many softball competitions and most recently at the Native American Softball World Series in Las Vegas, NV. Shane also helped raise two Special Children of his Heart; Lisa and Nakkita Buckanaga, caring for them as if they were his own and remaining a steady, loving presence in their lives.
Shane loved making memories with his family on vacations to places like the Bahamas, San Diego, Mexico, and most recently Nashville. At home, he enjoyed trying his luck at the casino and was a loyal Minnesota sports fan, always cheering on the Twins and the Vikings. In his younger years, Shane enjoyed playing softball, bowling, hunting, and ice fishing. He was known for his kindness and quiet generosity, often plowing snow and mowing lawns for elders without hesitation.
Shane's life was rooted in love for his family. His devotion to his daughters, his generous heart, and his great sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Shane is survived by his wife, Angela; daughters, Mercedez and Maddisen; mother, Roberta Bellanger; father-in-law, Scot Blaine; special family, Nakkita Buckanaga and her children: Andre, Ayden, and Alijah, and Lisa Buckanaga; siblings: Rex Robbins II, Johnathan Robbins, Cassandra Robbins, and Ciara Robbins; Dion (Tabitha) Bellanger who is a cousin, but like a brother to him, special nephews, Zayden and Zachary Leigland-Robbins, along with several other nieces and nephews.
Shane was preceded in death by his father, Louis; stepfather, Rex Robbins Sr.; mother-in-law, Wanda Blaine; sisters, Charlotte Robbins and Samantha Robbins; and grandparents: Louis Butcher Sr., Mary Jane Butcher, and John & Jane Bellanger, uncles, aunts and many cousins.
