Selma A. Merkens, 93, Moorhead, MN, formerly of Shelly, MN, died at Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, MN, on Sunday, April 21, 2013.
Selma was born April 7, 1920, at home on the farm near Shelly, the daughter of Ordean and Selma (Ueland) Henderson. She attended school near Shelly. On September 9, 1940, Selma was united in marriage to Chester Merkens, in Ada, MN. The lived and farmed near Shelly for many years until his death in 1981.
They raised their three children who survive, Ruth Lewison, Fargo, ND, Curtis Merkens, Minneapolis, Betty Larson, Cold Spring, MN. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren, Jeff Weber, Detroit Lakes, MN, Todd Lewison, CA, Laura Haukedahl, Fargo, ND, Paul Merkens, Centerton, AR, Brenda Johnson, Minneapolis, MN, Lynda Merkens, Eagan, MN, Dan Larson, Tampa, FL, Teri Etienne, Sartell, MN, 7 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral: 1:00PM Thursday, April 25, 2013, at Fredrikson Valley Funeral Home, Halstad, MN.
Visitation: Thursday from 11:00AM to 1:00PM at the funeral home.
Burial: Shelly (MN) Cemetery
