Sara Hunt, age 54, of Detroit Lakes, MN, formerly of Ponsford, MN, died Thursday, September 10, 2026, at her home surrounded by family.

Sara Josephine Kinsey, the oldest daughter of Jerry and Debra (Erb) Kinsey, was born October 1, 1971, in Prineville, OR. She grew up and attended school in Portland, OR. When she was a teenager, they moved to Prineville, where Sara met Bill Hunt. The two would unite in marriage on October 14, 1989, and were blessed with a daughter, Susan, and later a son, Will. The young couple made their home in Burns, OR, for a few years before moving to Minnesota. They lived in Felton, Twin Valley and Flom before they divorced and Sara made the move to Ponsford, MN, in 2015. While in Ponsford, she was quickly embraced by the community and, there, she found her soulmate, Jerry Adams. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, family and a deep sense of community. Together they served on the Carsonville Fire Department, the Pine Point Community Council, and the school board, giving their time and energy to support the community they loved. Sara worked as a Registered Nurse in various capacities and most recently for White Earth Nation. Her last position was with the Harm Reduction program and true to her nature, she dedicated herself to making a meaningful difference in clients she served before her cancer diagnosis forced her to retire this past March.

Sara was a unique individual with a big personality and great sense of humor. She was down to earth and a little bit sassy, but she was also the most honest, loving, understanding and forgiving person you will ever know. Sara loved fiercely and her family and friends meant the world to her. When she wasn’t hanging out with them, you could find her crocheting, reading, traveling, playing games on her I-pad or listening to music and the genre often depended on her mood. Sara was also a very talented artist with her specialty being paintings, however she enjoyed crafts of all kinds and beading. Although gone from this life too soon, she will live on in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know and love her.

Sara leaves behind her children, Susan (Josh) Jorschumb of Moorhead, MN, and Will (Kelsey) Hunt of Ada, MN; grandchildren: Colton, Ryker, Raylyn, Rylee, Dasan, WillyAnn, Aaron and Daden; a sister, Amanda Kinsey of Lebanon, OR, and a niece, Leah Paige Kinsey of Lebanon, OR; and many special family friends including bonus sisters, Missy Moran of Ponsford and Rachel LaFrinier of Detroit Lakes, her Clark family of Ponsford and Joe (Christi Boit) Diaz of Flom. She was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents; and a nephew, Holden Kinsey.

A Celebration of Life will start at 10:00 am on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at The Old Pine Point School, Pine Point, MN. All-Night Wake Services will begin at 5 pm on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at The Old Pine Point School.
