Watch Sandy's Funeral Mass

Sandra M. Skalin, 64, Detroit Lakes, MN, passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2020 in St. David's Medical Center, Austin, TX.

Sandra Marie Dymowski, known to many as "Sandy", was born April 21, 1956 in Grafton, ND, to Stephen and Sylvia (Stigar) Dymowski.   She grew up and attended school in Minto, ND. Following high school, Sandy moved to Corpus Christi for a short time.   She moved back to lakes country and made her home in Perham, MN. While working at the Grand Ballroom in Perham, Sandy met her future husband Keith Skalin. They were united in marriage on July 10, 1981 in Lake Park, MN.   With half of Sandy's family living in Texas, Sandy and Keith made Texas their first home after marriage. After a year of southern heat, they decided to spend their summers in Minnesota and winters in Texas. Sandy had a gift for making others feel welcome. She was employed for 20 years at the Holiday Inn, Detroit Lakes in a hospitality role. She absolutely loved visiting and meeting new customers. For over 25 years, Sandy worked for the United States Postal Service, retiring in 2017.

Sandy loved spending Minnesota summers at their home on Pearl Lake. She enjoyed sun tanning, working in her flower garden and shopping at JC Penny's, where she always found the best deals. One of Sandy's prized possessions was her little motorhome. She loved to travel with her girlfriends on weekend getaways. During retirement, she always stayed busy working on a project and making the most of each day. Her pride and joy were her two grandsons, Lance and Grant. Sandy would do anything for them and cherished all the hugs and snuggles she received.

Sandy had a spunky zest for life, love for her fur babies, Oscar and Emma, and will always be remembered for the love she shared with her family and friends.

Sandy will be remembered and missed by her husband, Keith Skalin of Detroit Lakes; their children, Kohl (Sara) Skalin and their children, Lance and Grant of Detroit Lakes; and Teah Skalin of Detroit Lakes; her mother, Sylvia Dymowski of East Grand Forks, MN; and her siblings: Dione Jones, of Fort Worth, TX, Darlene Roy of San Marcos, TX, and Wayne Dymowski of Austin, TX, Karin (Edward) Deaton, of Highland, MI, Terry (Anne) Dymowski of Grand Forks, ND; along with many nieces and nephews, who were part of her care during the end stages of her life.

She was preceded in death by her father, and two brothers, Michael, and Steven Dymowski "Gary".
