Ruth Nelson's Obituary
Ruth Nelson, age 88, of Ulen, Minnesota, died Wednesday, December 26, 2007, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, North Dakota.
Ruth Lorraine Wang was born July 6, 1919, the daughter of Bernard and Clara (Fuglie) Wang near Ulen. She was raised west of Ulen in Hagen Township where she attended country school. As a youngster, Ruth was baptized and confirmed her faith in Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ulen. On April 17, 1940, Ruth was united in marriage to Albert L. Nelson in Ulen. For 61 years, the couple made their home in Keene Township where they operated a dairy and grain farm. After Albert's death in 2001, Ruth moved into Ulen. In July, 2004, Ruth moved to Viking Manor Nursing Home where she had resided until the time of her death.
Ruth was an active member of Keene Lutheran Church until its closing. At that time she became a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Her favorite pastimes included reading, quilting, handwork, sewing, baking and attending Bible study.
Ruth is survived by a daughter, Carol (Gene) Quast of Knoxville, TN; two granddaughters, Jackie (David) Wells, Winston-Salem, NC, and Catherine Quast Nelson, Hickory, NC, and three great-grandchilden Jacob, Micah and Jenna Wells; brother, Vernon Wang, Moorhead, MN; sisters, Eleanor Braseth, Mahnomen, MN, Clarice Hilde, Ulen, MN and Frances Hogenson, Moorhead, MN, and a special friend, Shirley Bolme, who she affectionately referred to as her "other daughter."
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Walter and Ordell and two sisters, Myrtle Hilde and Mildred Halvorson.
Funeral Services was held on Saturday, December 29th, 2007 at 11:00 AM in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Ulen. Visitation was Friday, December 28th from 5PM until 7PM with a Prayer Service at 6:30PM in Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Visitation was one hour before services at the church on Saturday. Officiating was Pastor John Martinson.
Serving as vocalist was Steve Lunde with MaryAnn Schneidermann serving as organist. Pallbearers were Richard Bolme, Waldo Hilde, Ernest Hilde, Leslie Hilde, Douglas Nelson and Brian Johnson.
Interment was in North Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery, Ulen, Minnesota.
