Obituary

Ruth Ann Kier, age 69, of Naytahwaush, Minnesota, died Sunday, January 16, 2011 at North Country Regional Hospital in Bemidji, Minnesota.


Ruth Ann Kier, the daughter of John and Margaret (Keezer) was born July 22, 1941 in White Earth, Minnesota. She grew up in Naytahwaush and attended school there. As a young woman, Ruth moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota area to work. She spent most of her adult life in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, keeping busy raising her children. Nearly 20 years ago, Ruth came back to Naytahwaush to make her home. She was a PCA worker helping the Elders and also worked at the Shooting Star Casino for a time.

Ruth loved to play cards with family and friends. She enjoyed going the casino and taking "Road Trips" to visit others. She always seemed to be busy with a project and never had idle hands. Ruth was very involved with her grandchildren and took great pride in caring for them.

She is survived by five sons: Delmar Gullickson of Isle, Minnesota, Russel Gullickson of Minneapolis, Kevin Brown of Naytahwaush, Elmer (Leslie) Gullickson of Naytahwaush, Damion (Cynthia) Gullickson of Naytahwaush; a special granddaughter that she raised as her own, Christine Kier of Naytahwaush; three brothers: Wallace (Kim) of Winnie Dam, Minnesota, Duane (Donna) of Cass Lake, Minnesota, John of Faribault, Minnesota; three sisters: Mary Lou Korner of Minneapolis, Delores (Glenn) Peterson of Bagley, Minnesota, and June Tollefson of Moorhead, Minnesota. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren and many aunts and uncles.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Raymond Brown and Kieron Brown; four brothers; one sister; and her Aunt Joyce.
A memorial gathering will be held Wednesday, January 19, 2011 from 12 to 5 pm at the Old Naytahwaush Community Center. The service will be lead by Oscar "Sunfish" Oppegard.

Inurnment will be held next spring at Samuel Memorial Episcopal Cemetery in Naytahwaush.
