Ruth E. Haugen, 97, Oak Park Heights, MN, formerly of Shelly, MN, passed away on Friday, December 16, 2022, at Boutwells Landing Senior Living Community in Oak Park Heights.

Ruth Elda (Loveid) Haugen was born March 15, 1925 in Crookston, MN daughter of Sverre and Clara. She attended school in Inglewood, CA, Tucson, AZ, and graduated High School in Argyle, MN in 1942.

Ruth studied at Concordia, NDSU and graduated from Moorhead Teachers College, with a degree in education.

Ruth taught in various places including Sarles, and Caledonia, ND as well as Nielsville, and Climax, MN. She also worked at the American Crystal Sugar Company in Hillsboro, ND and taught Sunday School at SMR.

Ruth married Emil Haugen on November 29, 1952 and farmed outside of Caledonia. She raised two daughters, Kimberley and Melody while helping with the farm and teaching piano lessons.

Ruth was a member of the Royal Neighbors, Women's study club, Tri-Valley Opportunity Council, and Daughters of Norway in Minneapolis and Fargo.

Ruth is survived by her daughters, Kimberley, Stillwater, MN and Melody (Nick Fletcher) Columbia Heights, MN; niece, Anita (Dan) Chichester; great nieces and nephew; great-great nieces and nephew; and dear friends that became family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sverre and Clara; husband, Emil; as well as her brothers, Norman (Helen) and Paul; nephews, Douglas, and Richard; and niece, Susan.

Kimberley and Melody would like to thank the staff of Boutwells and Lakeview Hospice who gave such wonderful care to our dear Mom, Ruth.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Lakeview Health Foundation in care of Hospice 927 Churchill Street West Stillwater, MN 55082 and Caledonia Cemetery Fund 211 Main Street Caledonia, ND 58219.

Memorial Service: 11:00 AM, Monday, January 9, 2023 at Shelly Marsh River Lutheran Church, Shelly, MN.

Visitation: One hour before the memorial service at the church.

Inurnment: Caledonia Cemetery, Caledonia, ND.
