Ruth G. Nelson, 96, Ada, MN, died Sunday, September 14, 2014, at the Halstad Living Center, Halstad, MN.
Ruth Smith was born on November 8, 1917, at home in Stutsman County, ND, the daughter of Millard and Ida (Hanson) Smith. She moved with her family to rural Gary, MN, where she attended school. Ruth was united in marriage to Garfield Nelson on November 14, 1935, in Shelly, MN. They made their home in Ada and Ruth worked various jobs including as a clerk for the Ada Hospital. She was a long time member of Grace Lutheran Church of Ada, and its Ladies Circle and quilting group. Garfield died in 1983 and Ruth remained in Ada where she continued to live in her home before moving to Valley View Apartments until 2006, when she became a resident of the Halstad Living Center.
Ruth is survived by her son-in-law, John (Betty) Anderson, Halstad, MN, three grandsons, Doug (Jill) Anderson, Antigo, WI, Mike (Jan) Anderson, Detroit Lakes, MN, and Greg (Jodi) Anderson, Hillsboro, OR, five great grandchildren, Rachel (Nathan) Brunsell, Leah (Shawn) Van Price, Adam, Kendra, and Roman Anderson, three step great grandchildren, Christopher, Brittany, and Jami Grinde, two great-great grandchildren, Payton and Jaxon, one sister, Marjorie Kroshus, Fargo, ND, one brother, Wally Smith, of Peru, and several nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughters Beverly Anderson and Gladys Nelson, and siblings, Harold, Stewart (Jack), Lillian, Robert, Lester, William, and Stanley.
Funeral: 11:00AM Thursday, September 18, 2014, at Grace Lutheran Church, Ada, MN.
Visitation: On Thursday for one hour before the funeral at the church.
Burial: Bethany Lutheran Cemetery, rural Shelly, MN.
