Ruby Stiyer, 91, New Hope, MN, formerly of Mahnomen, MN, died on July 20, 2007, at North Ridge Care Center in New Hope MN.
Ruby A. Thompson was born on August 6, 1915 in White Rock, South Dakota, to Nels and Mary (Nadeau) Thompson. Her school years were spent in rural areas of North and South Dakota and Minnesota. She married Eugene Stiyer on November 15, 1934, in Sisseton, South Dakota. They farmed in the Mahnomen area until 1966 when they moved into town close to the Wild Rice River. Eugene died in 1972. Ruby then worked in the kitchen at the Mahnomen Public School for many years. She lost her home to the flood of 2002 and had lived at the North Ridge Care Center in New Hope for the past four and one half years.
She enjoyed gardening, especially her flowers, did embroidery work, volunteered at the Mahnomen Health Center Nursing Home and was an active member of her church, Circles of Faith United Church of Christ, through her involvement in the Prime Timer's Group and singing in the choir. Ruby also was a 4-H leader for many years and a member of the Farmers Union Organization. She greatly enjoyed spending time with her children and their families.
Surviving is her son, Norvin and wife, Rosie of New Hope; her daughter-in-law, Sue Stiyer of Crystal, MN; 11 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 4 sisters-in-law. Her husband Eugene, son, Wayne (1994), her parents, two sisters and eight brothers preceded her in death.
