Ruby Knob, age 98, of Waubun, MN, died Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes, MN.
Ruby Edna Ochsner was born October 9, 1923, in Medina, ND, the daughter of George E. and Martha (Walter) Ochsner. She grew up in Stutsman County where she attended Chase Lake School. As a young lady, Ruby entered the workforce with her first job picking potatoes. On November 8, 1949, Ruby was united in marriage to Henry Knob in Detroit Lakes, MN. The young couple made their home on the farm east of White Earth, MN. She worked beside Hank with the daily chores in addition to working at the sewing factory. Ruby was an accomplished seamstress, sewing for 28 years. In 1974, they moved into Waubun and Ruby began working in White Earth as a home health aide. She also kept busy with cleaning the White Earth Clinic and several residential homes. Later in 1978, Ruby began working at the White Earth Nutrition Center followed by the Waubun Nutrition Center. Hank died in June of 1981 and Ruby remained in their home and continued working until her retirement in 1997. She recently had moved to Oak Crossing to make her home.
Although Ruby never had children of her own, her hands were never idle. She helped with vocational bible school, sewed numerous stuffed animals, mostly teddy bears, made braided rugs, and tended her large garden. She loved baking and was known for her awesome donuts and breads. Over the years, Ruby was also active with the Circles of Faith United Church of Christ in Waubun and its Ladies Aid. Upon moving into Waubun, she became good friends with neighbors, Bernard and Lois Soyring, and their young son, Bernard Jr. Hank and she would babysit and thoroughly loved having Bernard Jr. around. Over the years, Bernard's family continued to grow and they all came to know and love Ruby as a grandma and great-grandma. She will be missed by many.
Ruby is survived by her extended family, Bernard (Lois) Soyring; grandson, Bernard Jr. (Tanya) Soyring; great-grandsons, Bernard "Ben" (Melissa) Soyring III and Skyler (Taylor) Soyring; great-granddaughters: Amanda (Daniel) Sherer, Amber Tesch and Ashley Tesch; Great-Great-Grandchildren: Eli, Treyton, Xavier, Lincoln, Memphis, Maci, Conner and Reed. Ruby is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers: Edwin, Alvin, Albert, and infant, Harold; and three sisters: Esther Hawkins, Ethel Nedberge and infant, Ruth Oschner.
A Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 3, 2022, at the Anderson Family Funeral Home in Mahnomen. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery, Mahnomen.
