Royetta McBain

Royetta McBain, 66, rural Gary, MN, died Sunday January 2, 2011, at her residence.

Royetta Ann was born on April 30, 1944, in Visilia, CA, to Roy and Ethelwyn (King) McBain. As a young child she and her mother moved to Clyde, ND, to live with her aunt Phyllis while Roy served in the South Pacific. Later the family moved to Rothsay, MN, where she grew up and graduated from Rothsay High School in 1962. She continued her education at the U of M in Minneapolis, graduating with a bachelor's degree. She then attended the University of Wisconsin in River Falls, WI, where she received her master's degree.

In 1983, Royetta, a courageous and adventurous woman, fulfilled her lifelong dream of becoming a mother. She adopted her children, a brother and three sisters from Columbia. She later became a proud grandmother of four grandchildren. Royetta worked as a juvenile probation officer for Hennepin County until 1999, when she retired. During this time she was active in the MN Army Reserve and the National Guard. She retired as a Lt. Col. Royetta was a spirited, independent woman who achieved her goal of country living, and enjoyed interests such as: horses, traveling, family activities, genealogy, reading, and music.

Royetta is survived by four children: Linda (Fernando) Beltran, Apple Valley, MN, Maria Orleny Arboleda, Minneapolis, MN, John (Liwei) McBain, Beijing, China, Ana Maria Ross, Pompano Beach, four grandchildren, three sisters: Beverly (Don) Gillaspie, Gatesville, TX, Cindy Huffman, Horace, ND, Tammie (Chuck) Ruebke, Ada, MN, one brother: Jerry (Linda) McBain, Moorhead, MN, and two aunts: Phyllis Schrader, Ada, MN, Judy Waalkins, Glenville, MN, and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Violence Intervention Project in Thief Rivers Falls, MN at PO Box 96, 56701

Funeral Service: 11:00 Friday, January 7, 2011, at Rothsay Baptist Church, Rothsay, MN.
Visitation: 5-7PM Thursday at Fredrikson Funeral Home, Ada, MN
