Roy Chounard, age 70 of Twin Valley, MN died January 7, 2014, at the Mahnomen Health Center Hospital under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Roy Z. Chounard was born on December 18, 1943, the son of Victor and Rose (Carriere) Chounard in Cavalier, ND. In June of 1962, he married Julie Burnside in Hitterdal, MN. They were blessed with two sons, John R. and Roy A. Chounard. In April 1972, Roy was united in marriage to Beverly Nelson and they lived in Detroit Lakes, MN and surrounding communities. Roy and Bev formed the band "Roy's Country Pride" and played together for nearly 20 years. Beginning in 1990 they operated the Flyway Store on Height of Land Lakes and from 1995 until 1996 they had the Headwaters Country Store. Finally, the couple owned the Snellman Convenience Store in Snellman, MN from 1997 until their retirement in 2005. Following their retirement they moved to Twin Valley and after Bev's death on November 22, 2012, Roy continued to make his home there.

In addition to his love of music, Roy enjoyed driving around the countryside taking in the beauty of nature.

Roy is survived by his children: John (Shannon) Chounard of Ulen, MN, Roy (Julie) Chounard of Ulen, Renee Galster of Moorhead, MN, Terri (Rick) Johnson of Hubbard, OR, Loretta (Tom) Wiebolt of Mahnomen, MN, Scott (Monica Sevigny) Nelson of Fisher, MN, and Mike Belden of Mpls, MN; 11 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; one sister, Jean (Mike) Kruchten of Ft. Ripley, MN; sisters-in-law: Gladys Manning of Ada, MN, Norma Bentley of Bremerton, WA, Maryann Fennern of Twin Valley, MN, Dorothy Miller of Fargo, ND and several nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of nearly 40 years, Beverly; a brother, Paul (Frenchie) Chounard, and a sister, Helen Kruchten

A private graveside service was held in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Twin Valley.
