Rosemarie Mersy, age 86, of Mahnomen, MN, died Thursday, October 11, 2012 at Garden Place Assisted Living in Bagley, MN.
Rosemarie E. Januszewski was born February 11, 1926 the daughter of Andrew and Mabel (Scott) Januszewski near Roy Lake, MN. She was raised in Bejou, MN, where Rosemarie also attended school. As a young lady, Rosemarie was employed as a waitress in a café in Bejou where she met John Mersy, the man she fell in love with, would marry and spend the next 62 years with. They were united in marriage on April 22, 1946 in Bejou. While John was employed by the Soo Line Railroad, they lived in several communities in Minnesota including Bejou, Miltona, Dent, Winger and into Mahnomen in the early 1970's. While living in Winger, Rosemarie worked once again as a waitress. After the couple moved to Mahnomen, she was employed at the Red Apple Café for many years until retiring in the mid-1980's. John died August 15, 2008. Rosemarie continued to make Mahnomen her home until the time of her death.
Rosemarie was an active member of the Mahnomen VFW Auxiliary and the Legion Auxiliary in Bejou for many years. Her favorite pastimes included baking, fishing, spending time at the casino and telling a good story.
Rosemarie is survived by her two sons, Gary (Stacey) of Lakeville, MN, and Allen (Sue Waletski) of Little Falls, MN, and son-in-law, Mike Renna of Winger; sisters, Doris Wang of Fertile, MN, and LaVerne Geldaker of Fergus Falls, MN, and sister-in-law, Gloria Wilkenson of Fergus Falls, MN; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband and daughter, Gail Renna.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Mahnomen. Visitation will be at the Anderson-Mattson Funeral Home from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, with a Prayer Service and Rosary beginning at 6:00 PM, on Friday, October 19, 2012. Interment will be at St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery.
