Obituary

Rosella "Rosie" Beaulieu, age 74, of Bagley, MN, died Thursday, October 28, 2010 in Bagley.

Rosella Irene Stevens, the daughter of Lawrence and Mildred (Hill) Stevens, was born April 24, 1936 in White Earth, MN. She grew up in Rice Lake Village, MN, area and as a young woman attended school in Pipestone, MN. After school, Rosie returned to the Rice Lake Village to make her home. In 1954, Rosie was united in marriage to Clarence Beaulieu and together they were blessed with 12 children. While raising her large family, Rosie also worked outside the home. She began her working career as a teacher's aide in the Bagley School and then worked for a time in home health care as a Community Health Representative. In the late, 1970's Rosie received her training as an EMT and was employed with the White Earth Rescue Service, stationed in the Naytahwaush, MN. During this same time, she served as Summer Youth Supervisor and worked as a teacher with the Adult Basic Education Program. Later in life she began cooking for the Elder Nutrition Program and also for the Reservation Tribal Council. 1998 she was hired as the receptionist with the Reservation Tribal Council where she worked until her retirement in 2008. Clarence passed away in 2007 and Rosie continued to live at home in Rice Lake Village.

Rosie was a strong woman and was the foundation of her family. She truly adored her family and cherished each of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She never turned one of her many family members away, always fed them and tucked them into bed at her house. She and Clarence graciously opened their home to many and she was as an adoptive mother to several children.

Rosie always stayed busy and had many hobbies. She enjoyed going to the Casino, playing Keno and Bingo. Rosie also enjoyed Boggle, Scrabble, Yahtzee, or any card game with family and friends and was known to be a champion whist player. She was a legend softball playing, playing with the Old Timers until she was sixty years old. She enjoyed traveling to softball tournaments and as an avid fan, Rosie was delighted when the softball tournaments were revived this past summer in Rice Lake. She loved to have fun and her wonderful sense of humor was known by all around.

Rosie is survived by two sons, Clarence "Bruce" of Thief River Falls, MN, and James (Julie) of White Earth; five daughters: Mary (Richard) Armstrong of Bagley, Millie (Kelly) Bunker of Naytahwaush, Gloria (Myron) Busse of Bagley, Janice (Dave Pergl) Antell of Mahnomen, MN, and Lynn Beaulieu of Bagley; three brothers: Bert Stevens of Bagley, Donald Stevens of White Earth, and Ronald Stevens of Clearbrook, MN; and four sisters: Ida Giard of Mahnomen, Connie LaFriniere of Mahnomen, Bonnie LaFriniere of Mahnomen, and Yvonne Stevens of Bagley; 40 grandchildren, and 46 great grandchildren.
She is also survived by her adopted children: Rene Auginaush, Ron Valiant, Paula Valiant, Shane Burnette, Bud and Dorothy Heisler, Kit and Pam Grove, Meredy and Isaac Littlewolf, and Rob Nefzger as well as dear friends Delores Beaulieu, Dorothy Hill, Tom McCaulley and Jim Littlewolf. She loved each of former co-workers and friends to numerous to mention.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, five children: Larry, Carol, Mildred, Alice, and Violet; two grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at 2 pm at Rice Lake Community Center in Rice Lake Village, MN. The service will be led by Pastor Tim Brown. Special music was provided by Richard and Lacy Armstrong, Kit and Pat Grove and Gloria LaFriniere. Pallbearers were Glenn "Jeb" Bunker, Thomas Busse Sr., Andrew Beaulieu, Jordan Pergl, Alex Beaulieu, Aaron Bellanger, Ben Beaulieu and Ross Beaulieu. Alternate pallbearers were Darrin Busse and Jonathan Hoell. Honorary bearers were all of Rosie's grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Visitation was held on Monday, November 1, 2010 beginning at 5:00 pm, with a Prayer Service at 7:00 pm, and Visitation will begin Monday, November 1, 2010 at 5 pm and continue until the time of service on Tuesday also at the Rice Lake Community Center. A prayer service will be held Monday at 7 pm at the community center.
