Rose Knutson, 84, of Halstad, Minnesota, died Thursday, November 4, 2010, at Halstad Living Center, Halstad, MN.
Rose Marie Pelerine was born on April 22, 1926, in Joliet, ND, to Edward and Evelyn Pelerine. She grew up in the Grand Forks, ND area, along with one sister and two brothers.
Rose worked at the Poor Farm in Caledonia, ND, for several years. Rose married Kenneth Mickelson, and they lived in the Grand Forks area and later moved to Underwood, ND. They raised four children and Rose did part time work. Later moving back to the Halstad area, Rose worked at several different places, the Hotel in Halstad, the Municipal Liquor Store, and the VFW in Shelly, MN.
She later married Duaine Knutson adding two more children to the family. They moved to Shelly, MN where they owned and operated Knutsons Café. After being diagnosed with tuberculosis they sold the café and moved back to Halstad, where they had an appliance business for several years.
Rose, enjoyed music and dancing, baking and cooking. She used to do embroidering, ceramics and sewing for her family and others. She loved the years she spent at the lake and catching walleye. Getting to see her grandchildren was always a joy and she loved to share their pictures with her friends. Rose, really loved her outings with a group that became known as the Golden Girls (Tippy Hukriede and Claudia Larson) and was saddened by their passing. Rose suffered many health issues through the years and bounced back many times. She moved into the Halstad nursing home in 2007. She became a big fan of the Minnesota Twins, and owned many Twins memorabilia.
Rose, will be missed by her family, which include: six children, Maureen Sharpe, Grand Forks, ND, Kathy Mickelson, Mesa, AZ, Ken (Kathy) Mickelson, Halstad, MN, Robert (Ivy) Mickelson, Dent, MN, Denise (Bruce) Hagen, Ayr, ND, and Darcy (Jon) Kragness, Farmington, MN, 11 grand children: Mylie Lavold, Marci Lavold, Shane Sharpe, Kelly Sharpe, Brant Mickelson, Brandon Mickelson, Brandon Bosch, Lucy Hagen, Jack Hagen, Jonah Kragness, Kate Kragness, 4 great grandchildren: Abby Sharpe, Matt Sharpe, Jesse Little, and Sydney Schertzer. Rose was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Ann Everson, her brothers John and Peter Pelerine, sister-in-law, Doris Pelerine, and grandson, Brady Mickelson.
Memorial Service: 1:00pm on Monday, November 8, 2010, at Fredrikson Valley Funeral Home, Halstad.
Visitation: One hour before the service on Monday.
