Obituary

Rosalie "Diane" Kier, Bi-naagozi giizhigak Anangookwe "Day Star Woman", age 83, of Naytahwaush, MN, died on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at her home under the loving care of her family and Hospice.

Rosalie was born April 8, 1942, in Red Lake, MN, the daughter of Daniel and Cynthia (Mountain) McKenzie.  She attended school in Red Lake and graduated with the Class of 1960 from Red Lake High School.  Following graduation, Diane furthered her education in Albuquerque, NM, earning her LPN licensure.  She entered the workforce as a nurse in California.  In 1969, Diane moved back to Minnesota to make her home.  She met Phillip "Danny" Kier and the two were united in marriage in 1974.  Together they raised three children and later helped with several of the grandkids.  Diane has made her home in the same house since 1980.  Over the years, she continued to work as an LPN on a part-time basis until her children were older and she could return to work full time until her retirement in the late 1990's.

Rosalie was a hardworking, loving, and caring individual who always put others before herself.  She was independent and remained busy helping those around her.  Her house was always open to family and anyone in need.  Rosalie loved to play all games, especially Scrabble and dice.  She looked forward to her weekly trips to the casino and her visits with her sister.  Above all, it was her family that brought her the most joy and she treasured being with them and making memories.  She will be missed by many but not forgotten.

Rosalie is survived by two sons, Phillip (Anitra Walz) Kier and Patrick (Ashley) Kier both of Mahnomen; 22 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren plus one on the way; and one great-great grandchild; one sister, Roberta Jones also of Mahnomen; and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her daughter, Delilah Boswell; two brothers, William "Billy" Mountain and Charles "Junior" McKenzie; and three sisters: Irene Sayers, Rita Cloutier and Marlene McKenzie.
