Watch Ron's Service

Ronald Voltz, age 80, of West Fargo, ND, formerly Mahnomen, MN, passed into the arms of Jesus in the early morning hours of November 17, 2023, at Sanford Health on Broadway in Fargo, ND, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Ronald Allen Voltz was born on March 14, 1943, in Fargo, ND, to M.W. and Alice (Domier) Voltz of Clifford, ND.  He was the oldest of their six children: Mary, Barbara, Jean, Pamela and Judy. Ron attended school in Clifford until the family moved to Mahnomen when he was 16 years old.  He continued his education at Mahnomen High School while farming with his dad.

Ron enjoyed cruising Main Street in front of the Red Apple Café in his teal and white '57 Plymouth, where he met his future bride, LaVonne Pederson.  The couple were married on May 16, 1964, at Ness Lutheran Church, Gary, MN.  They were blessed with three daughters: Terri, Michelle and Shelli.

Ron worked at Kochmann's Standard Service in Mahnomen for a number of years until he began driving truck for Winter Truck Line.  Following that, he drove for Foltz Trucking for many additional years.  Ron then worked at the Mahnomen Farmers Grain Elevator until his retirement.  After retiring, he drove truck at Skaurud Grain Farms and also for Ordell McCollum Farms.

Ron enjoyed woodworking in his shop, where he built beautiful keepsake furniture, birdhouses along with many other treasures.  He also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends and helping build Kars 4 Kids with his brother-in-law, Ken Pederson, in Hawley, MN.  A highlight of Ron's day was meeting for coffee at the Red Apple Café with his friends, affectionately called "The Knights of the Round Table".

Ron is survived by his wife of 59 years, LaVonne, of West Fargo; daughters, Terri (Kevin) Horn of Moorhead, MN, and Shelli (Mike) Gillie of Hawley, MN; granddaughters, Kirsten (Alex) Doucette of Shoreview, MN, and Kaitlyn (Caleb) Gillie of Alexandria, MN; sisters: Barb (Dennis) Smedsmo of Roseau, MN, Pam (Jim) Hansen of Bloomington, MN, and Judy Lee of West Fargo; brothers-in-law, Ken (Pauline) Pederson of Hawley and Arvid (Patricia) Pederson of Thaxton, VA; sister-in-law, LuAnne (Steven) Basney of Cokato, MN; along with many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his baby daughter, Michelle; his parents; sisters, Mary and Jean; and brother-in-law, Arlin Pederson.

A Time of Gathering will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 pm on Friday, November 24, 2023, at the Anderson Family Funeral Home in Mahnomen, MN, with a Prayer Service beginning at 6:30 pm. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at the Good News Fellowship, Gary, MN.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Hospice of the Red River Valley or radio sponsorships for the Good News Fellowship in Gary.
