Ronald C. Sirjord, age 76, of Gary, MN, died on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at the Mahnomen Health Center Nursing Home.
Ronald Chester Sirjord was born on November 25, 1937, to Morris and Josie (Hagy) Sirjord on the farm in Bear Park Township. Ron grew up on the family farm Northeast of Gary and was baptized and confirmed in his faith at Faaberg Lutheran Church. He attended school in Gary and graduated with the Gary High School Class of 1956.
As a young man, Ron worked on the Ore boats in Duluth, MN, and later in Seattle, WA area. But, it was his love for agriculture that brought him back home to the family farm. Ron was united in marriage to Gloria Horn on June 16, 1962, at Wild Rice Lutheran Church, Twin Valley, MN, and from this union came three sons; Avery, Jerome and Eric. Three days after his wedding, Ron joined the United States Army. He entered into basic training in Missouri and was later stationed in Georgia. After his honorable discharge in 1964, he returned to the Gary community where he farmed with his father and brother Mervin. Ron semi-retired from farming in his early 60's, but he continued helping his sons until entering the nursing home in 2013.
Ron loved agriculture. He greatly enjoyed the farming process and watching the fruits of his labor. If he wasn't in the field, you would most likely find him in his workshop tinkering with projects. He also enjoyed maintaining his large yard, playing guitar and watching old westerns. Ron would never shy away from a card game and looked forward to trips to the casino. He was involved with many aspects of the Gary community including; the Gary Ag Board, the Garfield Insurance Board, the Gary American Legion and Ness Lutheran Church Council. Ron was a devoted family man and will be greatly missed.
Ron is survived by his wife, Gloria of Gary, sons; Avery (Jacqueline) of Gary, Jerome of Ulen, MN, and Eric (Karianne) of Gary, brother, Mervin (Louann) of Gary and sister, Darlene (Lester) Halland of Gary, and his grandchildren; Justin, Kristin, Katelin, Brady, Mikayla, Tyler, Kelsie, Aiden and Jace.
