Ron Nefzger, age 75, of Bejou, MN, died at his home on Saturday, October 19, 2019.
Ronald Duane Nefzger was born February 5, 1944, at his parents' home near Beaulieu, MN, the son of Norbert and Christine (Mortensen) Nefzger. He attended and later graduated high school from Mahnomen Public School. Shortly after high school, Ron enlisted in the United States Navy where he served on board a ship on the shores of Vietnam. After his honorable discharge in 1969, Ron returned to Minnesota and was employed with Border States Paving. He also worked construction on the Iron Range for several years. In the early 1970's, Ron married Ardith Ritzschke and the couple made their home in Bejou, until later divorcing in 1975. Ron spent most of his working career as a truck driver for Trans Systems for over 30 years. Ron married the love of his life, Edith (Moose) LaFriniere, on October 29, 1977, and the couple had made their home in Bejou ever since. Ron was well known for his ability to train and work with horses. He was often seen out riding along with his grandchildren. In his younger years he was an avid hunter and was an excellent trapper which helped support his family with his fur sales. On August 10 th of this year, his wife of over 40 years, Edith, passed away at home.
Ron is survived by sons: Daniel (Robin) Nefzger of Lake Norden, SD, Terrance Nefzger of Moorhead, MN, and Wesley LaFriniere of Bejou; daughters: Angel Benson (John Saeland) of Bemidji, MN, Bernadette Spahr of Sacramento, CA, and Neomonie LaFriniere of Duluth, MN; 16 grandchildren: Christine Nefzger, Jonathan Nefzger, Dalton Benson, Bastian Benson, Jhana Saeland, Anisha Saeland, Tristan Nefzger, Connor Nefzger, Sianna Spahr, Danielle (James) Aliason, Dakotah Moose, Taylor LaFriniere, Trista LaFriniere, Naomi LaFriniere, Raven Jensen, and Aurora Prior; and five great-grandchildren: Mason Benson, Aaliyah LaFriniere, Abella LaFriniere, Dakotah Moose Jr., and Lukas Prior; one brother, Kenny of Hawley, MN; two sisters, Janis Taylor and Elaine Nefzger, both of Anchorage, AK; as well as many nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Norbert and Christine; his wife, Edith; one brother, Jerry; and several extended family.
Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2019, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Mahnomen, MN.
