Obituary

Roger Bruce Wayne Dyrdahl, 70, of Perley, MN, passed away early Tuesday morning October 9, 2018 at Sanford Medical Center of Fargo due to complications following open heart surgery.

Roger was born in Ada October 7, 1948, to Henry Dyrdahl and Alice Balzum. He was raised by his Grandparents, William and Annie Balzum. Roger was Baptized and Confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church of Ada. He Graduated from Ada High School in 1967. After high school, Roger attended Thief River Falls Tech for electronics. Roger worked at Norman County Implement, Texaco, Norman County Highway Department, and American Crystal Sugar. He was drafted to the Army in 1970.

Roger married Katherine Borgen April 17, 1970 at Landstad Lutheran Church of rural Perley. The day after they married Roger left for Vietnam and would not return home until the following Spring. Roger was a Communications Specialist in the Army and was honorably discharged March of 1971. He earned a Bronze Star Medal for his heroic and meritorious service in a combat zone. Upon his return home, he and his Wife Kathy started their life together in Perley.

Roger had a love for farming. He started working for his Father-In-Law, Bert Borgen, shortly after returning from Vietnam. Roger helped with many facets of the Borgen farming operation and also drove truck over the road. Roger and Kathy eventually branched out on their own and started Triple D Transport and Dyrdahl Farms.

Roger had the gift of gab and never ran out of things to chat about. He would call people at all hours of the day and night and for that we apologize. He enjoyed driving around to look at his fields and going to town for a bite to eat and a show. Roger and his family had many adventures, they traveled the world together. Roger also had a fondness of animals, many of which would frequently travel with him in his pickup. What Roger loved most were his three kids and his grandchildren, they brought him great joy and he and Kathy were lucky enough to spend oodles of time with them over the years.

Roger is survived by his wife of 48 years, Katherine, Perley; Mother: Alice Balzum Smith of New Hope, MN; Mother-In-Law: Elaine Borgen of Moorhead, MN; Siblings: Gail (Al) Shores of Corcoran, MN, Dennis (Sally) Dyrdahl of Aptos, CA, Clyde (Melissa) Dyrdahl of Los Altos, CA, David (Mary) Dyrdahl of Cupertina, CA, Roxanna Mehl of Capitola, CA and Diana Tapia of Capitola, CA; Children: Eric (Amy Wagner) Dyrdahl of Moorhead, Kami (Joel Hellerud) Klegstad of Karlstad, Leah Dyrdahl of Moorhead and his "Other Son" Marc Bergman of Ada, MN; Grandchildren: Karissa Klegstad, Ethan Klegstad, Sophia Klegstad all of Karlstad and Blaze Dyrdahl of Moorhead; Aunt: Mona (Don) Skaurud of Twin Valley, MN; Uncle: William (Barb) Balzum of St. Cloud along with several Cousins (who were more like Brothers and Sisters), Nephews and Nieces.
