Roger Wang, age 65, of Winger, MN, died suddenly on Tuesday, February 27, 2007, at his home.
Roger Dean Wang was born April 29, 1941, in rural Winger, the son of Alfred and Elsie (Omang) Wang. He grew up in the Winger area where he attended country elementary school. While moving around with his family, Roger also attended school in Fertile, MN, Bejou, MN, and Mahnomen, MN. As a young man, he began working for area farmers, often driving the milk truck to town. He later began driving semi and cattle truck. Roger worked several years for the Melvin Wang Trucking, near Fertile, until purchasing and operating his own grain truck.
On September 18, 1965, Roger was united in marriage to Pamela Hoidahl in Winger, MN. The couple made their first home in Fertile. A short time later, they moved to Winger and Roger began working for Dunnick Brothers & Gilcrest of Prinseburg, MN. He was employed summers doing road construction and spent his winters in Winger performing heating and plumbing repairs for neighbors. Roger began the yearlong project of building his home in Winger in 1976. As his heating and plumbing business continued to grow over the years it eventually became his primary occupation. He successfully operated "Roger`s Heating and Plumbing" for over 26 years.
Roger truly was a man dedicated to his family. His wife and children were the light of his life and any time he could spend with them was deeply cherished. While raising their children, Roger and Pam took many vacations showing the kids the natural beauty around the United States. Roger loved to travel, camp, and make memories. He also enjoyed going up for coffee and hearing the news in town. Roger knew how to fix anything and his willingness to help his neighbors and friends was known by all. Roger was proud to be part of a three man team "The Company of Gentlemen Adventurers" who successfully completed a 2000 mile snowmobile odyssey from Minneapolis, MN to Hudson Bay, Manitoba in February of 1971. This 31 day journey is known as the longest self-supporting snowmobile expedition to this date. He was a member of both the Calvary Lutheran Church and Winger city councils. What Roger truely enjoyed the most was simply spending time with his wife, Pam.
Roger is survived by his wife, Pam of Winger; one daughter, Jessica Wang of Bemidji, MN; two sons, Peter of Fairmount, ND, and Christopher of Winger; his mother, Elsie Wang of Winger; two brothers, Jerry and Ronald (Cheryl) all of Winger; and three sisters-in-law: Barbara Wang of Fertile, Shirley (Don) Ericksen of Minneapolis, MN, and Idonna Hinton of Fremont, CA.
