Roger Pearson, age 92, of Mahnomen, MN, died Thursday, January 11, 2018, at the Twin Valley Living Center, Twin Valley, MN. Roger Alden Pearson, was born April 23, 1925, in Detroit Lakes, MN, to Alden and Mamie (Johnson) Pearson. He attended school in Detroit Lakes and graduated in June 1943. He entered the Naval Aviation Training Program in August 1943 at Jacksonville, Florida, and was at the following Naval stations; Iowa, Texas and Illinois until September 1945. Roger attended one semester at the North Dakota State University in Fargo in 1946 then transferred to the University of Minnesota where he graduated with a bachelor of science in Forestry in June 1950. In August of that year he brought the Coast to Coast Hardware Store in Hartford, Wisconsin. In July of 1952, he bought the Coast to Coast Hardware Store from Archi Vogus in Mahnomen and operated this store until June 1993. On June 29, 1957, Roger was united in marriage to Sybil Schlicht in Vergas, MN, and they made their home in Mahnomen. Roger was a member of the AL and FM Masonic Lodge #280 in Mahnomen and the Mt. Tabor Lodge #106 in Detroit Lakes. He was a member of the Isaacson-Bjorge Post #31 of the American Legion in Mahnomen. Roger served as treasurer, was on the board of trustees and the tri-church council at the United Church of Christ, Waubun. He was a member of the Mahnomen Hospital Board and was past president, secretary and treasurer of the Mahnomen Boosters. He was also an assistant boy scout master and a member of the U of M alumni. He is survived by his wife, Sybil, Twin Valley, MN; one daughter, Nancy, Kent, Ohio; two grandchildren, Lucas and Amanda; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, John Pearson; and sister, Edna Kufus. A Memorial Service will be held at 1 pm on Monday, January 15, 2018, at the Anderson Family Funeral Home in Mahnomen.
