Roger Dale Osmondson, 62, of Fertile, MN, died on Saturday, December 27, 2014, at the Sanford Health, Fargo, ND.

He was born on June 5, 1952, to Conrad and Olga (Bakke) Osmondson in Crookston, MN and grew up on the family farm near Union Lake. He attended and graduated from Fertile-Beltrami High School in 1970. Roger went on to attend Moorhead Technical College, graduating in 1973 with a degree in diesel mechanics. After graduation, he was hired by Caterpillar in Denver, Colorado, as a diesel mechanic.

On October 28, 1973, Roger was united in marriage to Carol Gredvig at Concordia Lutheran Church, Fertile. They lived in Aurora, CO until December 1976, when they returned to Fertile. At that time, Roger and his brother Greg operated Beltrami Diesel and Auto for a couple of years. On May 18, 1981, a daughter, Kari, was born. In the 1980's Roger worked for Melvin Wang Trucking as a mechanic. Since then, he was a self-employed mechanic and worked for area farmers.

Roger enjoyed fishing on area childhood lakes, hunting, camping, and watching old western movies and TV shows. He took pride in planting and caring for the vegetable garden, especially measuring row width for straightness. Mechanics came naturally to Roger. Intuitively, Roger would know what was needed to fix, restore, and create mechanical things. Being outside enjoying the seasons, observing the wildlife, and watching the sunrise and sunset was where Roger was most comfortable. He often took his best canine friend, Remy, on four-wheeler rides touring the countryside. Roger appreciated a simple and unpretentious lifestyle and was kind and generous, always helping others. He cherished his family, especially his daughter, Kari.

Roger is survived by his wife, Carol, Fertile; one daughter, Kari Osmondson, St. Cloud, MN; three brothers: Jerry (Carol), Fertile, MN; Ron, Red Lake Falls, MN; and Greg, Erskine, MN; two aunts: Joyce Sannes, Fertile, and Grace Pederson, Minneapolis, MN; several nephews, nieces, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Linda (2000).

Memorial services will be on Saturday, January 3, 2015, at 10:30 am at Concordia Lutheran Church, Fertile, MN.

Visitation will be on Friday, January 2, 2015, from 5-7 pm with a prayer service at 6:30 pm, at Concordia Lutheran Church, Fertile, MN.

Burial will be in the spring at the Union Lake Free Lutheran Cemetery, rural Winger, MN.
