Roger Nelson, age 73, of Twin Valley, MN, formerly of Caldonia, ND, passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at Bethany Assisted Living in Fargo, ND.

Roger Mark Nelson was born on December 31, 1950, in Ada, MN, to Norvald and Marjorie (Grenvold) Nelson. Roger attended Ada High School and later enlisted in the United States Army in 1970, serving in Korea before his honorable discharge in 1971. After coming home to Ada, Roger briefly worked at Industrial Builders as a heavy equipment mechanic. In 1974, Roger married Maxine Lee, and they had two sons, Christopher and Phillip, before later separating. After relocating to Caledonia, ND, Roger dedicated a significant portion of his career to American Crystal Sugar in Hillsboro, ND, where he worked until his retirement in 2004 at the age of 55. Following his retirement, he settled in Twin Valley, MN, where he has resided ever since.

Roger maintained a lifelong passion for high-performance motors, stemming from his early days as a racing enthusiast. Whether intricately crafting or repairing engines, he enjoyed the artistry and precision of his work. When he wasn't tinkering on motors, he also enjoyed time in the great outdoors fishing. He made many memories over the years, traveling to all parts of the United States on his adventures. Although he showed a quiet deminer on the outside, he had a light-hearted sense of humor and loved time spent with friends and family.

Roger is survived by his son, Phillip Nelson; four grandchildren: Katlyn Nelson, Jazmin Kelly, Paige Nelson, and Morgan Nelson; former wife and close friend, Maxine Nelson; brother, Noel Nelson; and sister, Kay Green. Roger was preceded by his parents; son, Christopher Nelson; and sister, Virginia Hoekstra.
