Roger Knopfler, age 71, of Fargo, North Dakota, formerly Ulen, Minnesota, died Monday, January 17, 2011, at Manor Care Nursing Home in Fargo under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Roger Dean Knopfler was born November 26, 1939, the son of Clarence and Esther (Mortenson) Knopfler in Goose Prairie Township, Clay County, Minnesota. Roger attended school in Ulen, graduating with the class of 1958. On December 7, 1963, Roger was united in marriage to Linda Wang at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ulen. The couple made their home in Ulen and to this union two children were born: Donald and Lahna. Roger and Linda later divorced.

Over the years, Roger worked on road construction, was employed with John Oberg Farms and he owned and operated his own milk truck.

Roger is survived by his son, Donald (Wendy Fevig) and his daughter, Lahna (Thomas) Haverkanp, all of Ulen, MN; a brother, Verne Knopfler of Ulen, MN; two sisters, Esther (Claude) Parker and Hazel (Henry) Valdez all of CA and two grandchildren, Danielle and Casey Knopfler.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Dale and a sister, Sharon Kay.

A Memorial Service were Friday evening, January 21 at 7:00pm in the Anderson Funeral Home, Twin Valley. Burial was in the West Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery, Ulen, Minnesota.
