Obituary

Roger Duane Hanson, 84, of Beltrami, MN, left this earthly life to be with the Lord on October 18, 2023 at Fair Meadow Nursing Home after a long battle following his stroke.

Roger Duane Hanson was born to Ivel and Mae Hanson in Crookston, MN on April 11, 1939. He graduated from Fertile Beltrami High School in 1957, and later received his masters degree from NDSU.

Roger and Shirley (Hoffe) Hanson were united in marriage on March 21, 1959 at Concordia Lutheran Church of Fertile, MN. They were blessed with two children Debbie Haugrud and Dennis Hanson. He taught junior high social studies in Great Falls, MT for 14 years before moving back to Beltrami and buying the family farm. He farmed until shortly before his stroke in 2019.

Going to have coffee with the other Beltrami guys every day, bible study, traveling, fishing, wood working, and his family brought hours of enjoyment. He always said that the most important thing was his relationship with the Lord, and his greatest desire was for others to be saved.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of Beltrami; children, Debbie (Brent) Haugrud of Rothsay, and Dennis (Dina) Hanson of Fertile; six grandchildren, Ben (Jenna) Haugrud, Nathan (Amanda) Haugrud, Rachel (Greg) Schlangen, Austin (DeeAnna) Hanson, Seth (Rachelle) Hanson, and Noah Hanson; great-grandchildren, Bruce, Boaz, Brynlee, Blake, Maria, Ella, Lucas, Andrew, Henry, and Peter; brother, LeRoy (Elda) Hanson and brother-in-law, George Winkel of Brooklyn Park. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Audrey Money of Tennessee and Elayne Winkel of Brooklyn Park.
