Obituary

Rodney K. Kjolberg, age 70, of Waubun, MN, died Tuesday, November 7, 2017, at home, surrounded by family. Rodney Keith Kjolberg was born on March 17, 1947, to Robert and Lillian Marian (Bellecourt) Kjolberg in White Earth, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at Lake Grove Lutheran Church. He attended country school and Waubun High School. In 1968, Rodney joined the Army and served during the Vietnam War. He was united in marriage to Cheryl Beaupre on September 13, 1969, in Detroit Lakes, MN. After his honorable discharge, Rodney returned to the Waubun area and began working at Witchcraft making Viking Snowmobile hoods. Throughout the years, he also worked various construction jobs and at Haugo Farms. He found his fit as a grounds maintenance worker at the Shooting Star Casino where he was employed for 20 years until his retirement in 2011. In winter, Rodney enjoyed time outdoors dark house spearing. In the other seasons, he could be found cutting wood, deer hunting, having a beer with friends, or helping family members. He was an avid bar bingo player that never missed a Monday or Friday night despite the hurdles that may have stood in the way. Rodney spent many hours tending to his large gardens, which provided him with produce to take to the farmers market and to give away. He had a special place in his heart for his dog, Toby Keith, and his cat, Tiger. He will be remembered for his caring personality and helping hand. Rodney is survived by his wife of 48 years, Cheryl; his son, Jeff (Shirley) Kjolberg, Waubun; his daughter, Lynn (Rodell) Storbakken, Veblen, SD; his mother-in-law, Lucille "Dickie" Beaupre, Ogema, MN; his grandchildren, Taylor and Heather; one sister, Margie Ellis, Albert Lea, MN; his sisters-in-law: Karen (Nels) Mortenson, Waubun, Linda Gullard, West Charleston, VT, and Jean Beaupre, Fargo, ND; and his brothers-in-law, Joel (Ruthie) Beaupre, Callaway, MN, and Chuck Leonard, Crookston, MN.
