Robert Joseph Tjon died peacefully at his home with his family on October 5, 2021 after a long battle with chronic lung disease. He was born March 1, 1945 in Bottineau, ND to Telford and Evelyn (McGrath) Tjon. Robert was baptized into Christ at Norland Lutheran Church in Bottineau on April 29, 1945 and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Twin Valley, MN on October 2, 1960.

Robert married Janice (Stortroen) on November 21, 1970 at Sandhill Lutheran Church in rural Climax, MN. Although farming was their main occupation, they both worked for two years at Viking Snowmobiles in Twin Valley. A dairy partnership was formed in 1975 between Telford and Robert that continued for two years, after which, Robert took over full operation. Telford and Evelyn decided to retire in 1979, Robert and Janice then moved onto the home place. They built a parlor milk house and moved the cows out of the stall dairy barn to their new living quarters on December 23, 1982. Robert and Janice milked up to 100 cows during their years in the dairy business and finally sold the Holsteins in 1997. They continued grain farming until transitioning the farm to son Tim over the last three years. Robert and Janice moved from the farm to a 3-bedroom rambler just outside of Twin Valley in September of 2019.

Robert was member of the Twin Valley Jaycees and named Young Farmer of the Year in 1980. Robert was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Twin Valley, especially with the trustees, up until the time of his death. He was a supervisor for Home Lake Township for over 32 years from 1988-2020 and active in the Wild Rice Conservation Club. Robert was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed many adventures with friends and family. He enjoyed restoring a 1928 Model A truck and many John Deere tractors and mowers. Robert would search auctions looking for furniture to refinish and additions for his coin collection.

Robert is survived by his wife of 50 years, Janice. Due to COVID-19 restrictions in 2020, they were not able to have a public anniversary celebration but enjoyed a card shower and time with immediate family. Robert is survived by his three children: Collette (Mike) Christoffers, Moorhead; Travis (Kristie) and Tim (Melissa), Twin Valley; sisters Jeanette (Roger), Leeds ND and Joanne (Roger), Bismarck ND; one brother David (Gail), Garrett IN; sisters-in-law Pat (Hamilton MT), Robin (Fallbrook CA), and Theresa (Moorhead MN), Eileen (George), Buxton ND; and brother-in-law, Larry, Climax MN; 11 grandchildren and 1 great-grand child.
