Obituary

Robert "Bob" Tangen, 58, of Ulen, MN, died Tuesday, October 15, 2013 in the Twin Valley Living Center under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Robert F. Tangen was born January 19, 1955 the son of Fritz and Marie (Larson) Tangen in Detroit Lakes, MN. He was raised in Ulen and baptized and confirmed his faith at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Bob attended school and graduated from Ulen-Hitterdal High School with the class of 1973. Following graduation, Bob served his country as a mechanic in the United States Army from 1973 to 1976. After his honorable discharge, he returned to the Ulen community. On April 21, 1979 Bob was united in marriage to Debra Braseth. The couple made their home in Detroit Lakes where they were both employed at Snappys. Later they returned to Ulen and Bob worked at the Viking Manor Nursing Home. Bob continued living in Ulen but began a 15 year stretch working as a Processing Tech for American Crystal in Moorhead. Due to his failing health, Bob was forced into an early retirement. He was able to live in his own home until last week when he moved to the Twin Valley Living Center.

Bob was a lifetime member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. His favorite pastimes included playing golf, going to the casino, riding his motorcycle and he truly treasured the time he spent with his grandchildren.

Bob is survived by two daughters, Kristi (Kory) Shae of West Fargo, ND and Erica (Nick Theis) Tangen of Ulen; five grandchildren; sister, Paulette (Dick) Nathe of St. Cloud, MN; sister-in-law, Marlys (Darwin) Leach of Lake Park, MN and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Christopher, a brother, Richard "Toby" Burda and his godparents, Ellen and Earl Lien.

Memorial Services were held on Friday, October 18, 2013 at 11:00 in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Ulen. A Time of Gathering was one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

Officiating was Pastor Al Brooks with Carol Lockhart serving as organist and Susan Green serving as vocalist. Honorary urn bearers were his grandchildren: Makenna Anderson, Carson Shae and Olivia, Payson and Harper Theis. Military honors were provided by the Ulen VFW Post #5115 and the Ulen Post #412 of the American Legion and the MN National Guard Honor Guard.

Inurnment was in North Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery, Ulen.
