Obituary

Robert (Bob) Remark, 86, of Fertile, MN, died Wednesday, December 1, 2010, at Riverview Hospital, Crookston, MN. He was born on February 24, 1924 in Ada, MN to Alfred and Clarice (Pfund) Remark. In 1942, Bob graduated from the Ada High School, joining the US Army during WWII along with many of his classmates. After serving at a training base in Florida, Bob requested overseas duty. He soon landed in Naples, Italy, and was transported to a forward operating base near Rome. Bob was scheduled to join a combat team at the front lines but the night before the transfer, an officer came through the camp asking if anyone could type. Bob raised his hand and became a clerk for the remainder of the war. His typing skills saved his life, since all the men in his tent were killed in action by a Nazi Messerschmitt Fighter on their way to the front.
Bob returned to Ada after the war and graduated with an accounting degree from the University of North Dakota in 1950. He married Sharon Austinson of Fertile, MN, on November 8, 1952. After working as a sales rep for Dakota Electric for several years, Bob decided to study law at the University of North Dakota, graduating in 1958. He joined Sharon's father, Joseph Austinson, at his Fertile Law Office, practicing law in for 37 years. He served as Assistant Public Defender for the State of Minnesota for several years. Bob was president of the Fertile-Beltrami School Board, Concordia Lutheran Church Board, and served on the Fertile city council.
Bob loved to sail his 16' Hobie Cat Catamaran at several lakes where he and Sharon had a travel trailer. He took up photography as a hobby. For years, he took pictures of the local high school sports teams, eventually adding weddings gigs to his weekends. He was handy with a chainsaw and loved to spend time outdoors at he and Sharon's place near the Sand Hill River.
Bob is survived by: his wife, Sharon; son Richard (Deanna) and their daughters, Trisha, Lindsey, Juliana, Brittney; son Paul and his sons, Joe and Matt; son Steve (Dianna) and their daughter, Hayley; son Roger (Megan) and their daughter Sydney, and son Gavin; sister Betty Johnson of Ada; brother Louis (Dorothy) of Moorhead. Bob is preceded in death by granddaughter Jordan Remark, and his parents.
