Robert "Bob" H. Poehler, 83, died on Saturday, February 5, 2011, at the Bridges Care Community, Ada , MN . He was born on June 30, 1927, to Henry and Ethel (Rill) Poehler at his grandparent's home north of Ada. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Pleasant View Township, rural Ada. He attended school in Lockhart and graduated from Ada High School in 1945. Following high school, Bob continued to farm with his family.
On June 24, 1950, Bob was united in marriage to Helen Ruebke, his childhood sweetheart, at St. John's Lutheran Church. He farmed the family land and raised Black Angus cattle until 1971. He then began working in the implement business starting with International Harvester, followed by many years with Berg Implement in Ada until his retirement in 1989. Over the course of his life Bob also did carpentry work and possessed a special skill of woodworking. In his younger years he was an avid bowler and also spent time hunting and fishing. His gentle smile, warm handshake and the twinkle in his eye let everyone who met Bob know they were accepted by him.
During retirement Bob was very active. He was a school bus driver and was fortunate to drive many of his grandchildren to various sporting events and activities. Driving the bus and making trips was pleasurable for him and he was affectionately referred to by all of the kids as "Grampa Bob". He enjoyed helping his son Tim, nephew Dan and other farmers with field work. Bob and Helen attended countless games and activities. He was very proud of his family and had a deep love for Helen, his wife of 57 years. His favorite past times in his last years included watching the Minnesota Twins, coffee with friends, caring for his beloved cat "Whiskers" and most of all, time with his family and welcoming new great grandchildren into the world.
Bob is survived by two sons, Tim (Kris) Poehler, Ada, MN, Tom (Melanie) Poehler, Lafayette, LA, one daughter, Sara (John) Proznik, Buxton, ND, one son-in-law, Bill Tyrrell, Grand Forks, ND, 16 grandchildren; Jeramy (Emily) Poehler, Moorhead, MN, Amy (Frankie) Johnson, Ada, MN, Zachary (Kristen), Wasilla, AK, Karli, Hannah, and Haley Poehler, all Ada, MN, Andy (Holly) Simonitch, Washington, DC, Allison, Amanda, Katie, Caroline Poehler, Lafayette, LA, Ryan and Brittany Tyrrell, Grand Forks, ND, Nicolas, Ethan, and Lauryn Proznik, Buxton, ND, six great-grandchildren, Tanner Somers, Ariel and Avery Johnson, Ada, MN, Grace and Hope Poehler, Moorhead, MN, and Alex Poehler, Wasilla, AK one brother-in-law, Dr. H. J. Ruebke, Ada, MN; one niece, Linda (Paul) Knutson, Grand Forks ,ND and one nephew, Dan (Lisa) Ruebke, Ada,MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Helen January 22, 2008, one daughter, Mary Tyrrell, December 1, 2010, and one infant sister, Ruth.


Funeral Service: 10 AM Wednesday, February 9, 2011, at Grace Lutheran Church , Ada , MN .

Visitation: 5-8 PM Tuesday, February 8, 2011, with a prayer service at 7:30 PM. at Grace Lutheran Church , Ada .

Burial: Pleasant View Cemetery , Ada , MN.
