Robert Paul, age 88, of Mahnomen, MN, died Tuesday, February 18, 2020, at the Mahnomen Health Center Nursing Home, Mahnomen, MN.

Robert James Paul, the son of Frank and Anna (Blattenbauer) Paul Sr, was born in Rosedale Township, rural Mahnomen, on April 4, 1931.  Robert "Bob" attended school at Rosedale Country School before entering the United States Army at the young age of 17.  He was stationed in Germany and later in Japan after being called back into active service during the Korean Conflict. Following an honorable discharge, Bob returned to the area and began farming with his dad and brothers.  On October 19, 1957, he was united in marriage to Delores Urvig at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Beaulieu, MN.  The couple made their home on the farm southeast of Mahnomen where they farmed, had dairy cattle and raised their family of eight children.

Bob never shied away from hard work and farming was a way of life that he loved.  In 1983, they sold the milk cows, but he continued to farm until the age of 65.  After retiring, Bob kept busy driving the road grader for Stanley Gunderson for many years.

Bob always loved the outdoors and his greatest memories were hunting and fishing with his brothers, sons and grandchildren.  He also had a passion for flying.  Bob obtained his pilot's license and over the course of several years he owned three different planes and maintained a grass landing strip at the farm.  He also enjoyed 4-wheeling, snowmobiling, and playing cards, especially poker, with his "bootie bag" at the ready!  Bob truly loved his family and was often the life of the party with his great sense of humor.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Bob is survived by his wife of 62 years, Delores of Mahnomen; four sons: James "Jim" (Patti) Paul of Dent, MN, Mike (Carla) Paul of Detroit Lakes, MN, Doug (Stefanie) Paul of Dilworth, MN, and Jason (Patty) Paul of Barnesville, MN; three daughters: Kristi (John) Stall of Mahnomen, Lori (Tom) Kaste of Dilworth and Denise (Kevin) Bruggeman of Perham, MN; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren plus one arriving any day; one great-great-grandson; one sister, Betty (Delmar) Schoenborn of Mahnomen; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Donny; two grandchildren, Parker and Joshua; two brothers, Frank Jr. and Eddie; and many extended family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, February 22, 2020, at 10:00 am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Beaulieu, MN.  Visitation will be held Friday, February 21, 2020, from 5:00 – 7:00 pm with a Prayer Service at 6:30 pm at Anderson Family Funeral Home in Mahnomen, MN. Burial will be in the St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Beaulieu MN.
