Robert Nickaboine, age 78, of Waubun, MN, died Friday, March 2, 2018, at his home.
Robert Lee Nickaboine, the son of Joseph and Delphine Riley, was born in White Earth, MN, on January 17, 1940. Robert, also known as "Bitty Boo", was raised in the Elbow Lake Village area and attended school in Waubun, MN. As a young man, Bob entered the United States Navy. He proudly served some of his time in Cuba on the US Guantanamo Bay base while Castro was in power. Following his honorable discharge, Bob moved to Texaco, New Mexico, for a time before joining his family in Oklahoma. He spent most of his career working on various Construction and outdoor jobs. About 20 years ago, Bob returned to Minnesota to make his home during retirement.
Bob was an avid outdoorsman and spent as much time in nature as he could. In his younger years, he greatly enjoyed hunting and harvesting wild rice. He also liked to watch golf. More recently, Bob kept busy working crossword puzzles and reading.
He is survived by three siblings: Genevieve Dawson of Locust Grove, OK, Will Nickaboine and Ardella Mertz, both of Huntsville, AL; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: Richard, George, Joe, and Paul; two sisters, Elizabeth and Richilda.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, March 9, 2018, at Anderson Family Funeral Home in Mahnomen. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
