Robert "Bob" Kaste, 75, of rural Waubun, MN, died after a courageous battle with lung cancer on Monday, December 3, 2007, at the VA Medical Center in Fargo, ND.

Robert Louis Kaste was born April 27, 1932, in Mahnomen, MN, to Manda (Kindseth) and Louis Kaste. He was a 1950 graduate of Mahnomen High School, and married his high school sweetheart, Donna Skatvold, on July 12, 1952, at First Lutheran Church in Mahnomen. In 1969, after living in Mahnomen most of those years, they moved to South Twin Lake...a place they truly enjoyed. Bob and Donna were blessed with four children: Sue, John, Tom, and April.

Bob served in the U.S. Army where he worked as a telegraph operator - International Code. His time there served him well, as it enabled him to share many tales from those early days. Up until a disabling electrical accident, he worked a variety of jobs: road construction, truck driver, and road grader operator.

Many of Bob's fondest memories were of hunting and fishing with his friends and family in his younger years. Some of the things he later enjoyed most were going for coffee and shaking dice at Pinehurst every morning, Minnesota Vikings games, and enjoying a treat from Dairy Queen. Bob and Donna shared a love of nature and going for rides in the woods, country/western music, and going to casinos. Bob enjoyed telling jokes and reliving stories from the past. He dearly loved his family, and nothing brought him more joy than his grandchildren.

He is survived by his two daughters, Sue (Duane) Gunderson, Erskine, MN, and April (Don) Haug, Brainerd, MN; two sons, John, Reno, NV, and Tom (Lori), Dilworth, MN; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Mardelle (Wally) Schoenborn, Mahnomen, MN, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, an infant brother, Lyle, and a sister, Ione Hanson.

Bob was dearly loved by his family and will truly be missed. May God bless the memory of Robert Louis Kaste.
