Robert "Bobby" Guenther, age 85, of Waubun, MN, died Saturday, March 21, 2020, at the McIntosh Senior Living, McIntosh, MN.
Robert Leo Guenther was born healthy at 11 lbs 3 oz at home east of Waubun on November 12, 1934, to Gustavas and Christina (Pahan) Guenther. He attended school in Waubun and worked on the family farm until he was united in marriage to Marilyn Heath. The two wed on October 22, 1953, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Mahnomen, MN. Together they started their own farm and were blessed with four children. Bobby lived his life by the land, for the land, from the land on his own terms and by his own hands. His venture included milking cows for 34 years, raising livestock for 60+ years while farming 750 acres. He also dynamited for the county and different entities for many years.
Bobby was a fisherman, hunter, trapper, inventor, tinkerer and a heck of a huge storyteller who could talk anyone's ear off! He loved spending time in the great outdoors and traveling. Over the years, Bobby served on the Oakland Township Board for 34 years along with the Soil and Water Conservation Board. He also held memberships with the Waubun Wildlife Club, Waubun Trailblazers and Naytahwaush Nightriders Snowmobile Clubs, Knights of Columbus and was a lifelong member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
Bobby was a religious man who expressed his love for his wife of 66 years, his children and grandchildren everyday and was a teacher to all. God gained an angel, a hero, a legend and a wonderful storyteller.
Bobby is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Waubun; two sons, Robert (Lynn Goodwin) Guenther and Jeffrey Guenther, both of Waubun; two daughters, Mary (Edward) Lesko of Richwood, MN, and Julene (Randy) Hodgson also of Waubun; six grandchildren: Crystal (Rob Thiel) Lesko, Tiffany (Rob) Jeffers. Andy Lesko, Kristin (Kyle) Jameson, Jessica Hodgson and Re (Serina Hanson) Wadena; seven great-grandchildren: Kathie and Robbie Jeffers, Thorin, Cedar, and Cirdan Jameson, Alyssa Sickles and Brady Wadena; four sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; two brothers; three brothers-in-law; one niece and two nephews.
Due to concerns surrounding Covid-19 and restricted gathering sizes, public services will be delayed.
A private Funeral Mass with burial will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Beaulieu, MN, and a public Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
