Obituary

Robert D. Evans, age 84, of Fargo, ND, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2026, at Bethany Retirement Home. He was surrounded by his loving family, friends, and dedicated caregivers during his final moments.  Bob was born on January 2, 1942, in Moorhead, MN, to Erwin M. Evans (1901-1951)   and Melba G. Evans (Lee) (1902-1988). He spent his childhood in Ulen, MN, where he was raised in the Christian faith at Bethlehem Lutheran Church.  He was surrounded by family, close cousins, and friends who played a meaningful role in his early life.   During his school years, he participated in basketball and played the trumpet in the Ulen Band. Bob graduated from Ulen High School in 1960, marking the beginning of his journey into adulthood.

Following his graduation from Ulen High School in 1960, Bob moved to the Twin Cities area, where he explored several job opportunities and gained valuable work experience. In 1963, he enlisted in the North Dakota Air National Guard, dedicating six years of honorable service until 1969. During this period, Bob also pursued higher education and successfully graduated from Moorhead State College with a Bachelor of Science in Education (B.S.E.) degree in 1969.  After completing his education, Bob established his career as an Insurance Underwriter, dedicating many years to the profession, with most of his tenure spent in Sioux Falls, SD. His commitment to professional development led him to earn an Associate of Applied Science Degree (CDP), enhancing his expertise and credentials in the field. Alongside his professional pursuits, Bob realized a lifelong aspiration by obtaining his Private Pilot License, piloting a Cessna 150 and fulfilling his dream of flight. After moving to California, Bob continued working in the Insurance Underwriter field.    He lived in several locations during this season of life: Sacramento, Sebastopol, Santa Rosa, and Windsor.

After concluding his professional career in insurance, Bob transitioned into retirement and embraced a new chapter as a Commercial Bus Driver. This role allowed him to experience the dynamic landscape of the Bay Area, as he regularly drove routes that included crossing the iconic Golden Gate Bridge four times each workday. In the later stage of his life, Bob made the decision to relocate to Fargo, where he spent his remaining years.

Throughout his life, Bob had a passion for exploring new places and creating lasting memories with those he loved. He occasionally traveled with his cousin David, and together they experienced remarkable destinations such as Hawaii, Las Vegas, and Denali National Park in Alaska. A trip to San Francisco, with sister, Jane and nephew, Tim was also a fun memory.  Cruising the Midwest and California coastline on his motorcycle was another way Bob spent his leisure time.  Bob maintained a strong bond with his sister and brother, always staying close to them throughout his life. His dedication to family extended beyond his immediate relatives, as he consistently showed love and support to both family and friends.  He expressed his affection through regular correspondence, personal visits, and by being present at important occasions such as graduations, weddings, Annual Ulen Turkey BBQs, funerals, and Christmas gatherings. Even when he was unable to attend, Bob made sure to send a Hickory Farms box to let his loved ones know he was thinking of them.  Known for his friendly nature, Bob was easy to be around and valued as a good friend. He was unassuming and possessed a strong, quiet faith in his redeemer. His subtle dry humor brought warmth to his interactions, and he approached life with common sense and decency. Bob appreciated the people in his life, traveled light, and had the gift of patience.

Bob was preceded in death by several cherished family members. His parents, Erwin and Melba Evans (Lee), were among those he lost, and he also mourned the passing of his brother, Allen Evans, and his sister-in-law, Alvina "Toots" Evans. The loss of his nieces, Anne, Kathy, and Mary Evans, left a profound impact on him. Additionally, his brother-in-law, James "Jim" Williams, passed away during Bob's lifetime. Each of these losses marked significant moments in Bob's life, and he carried the memories of his loved ones with him, holding them dear throughout his years.

Bob is survived by his sister, Jane P. Williams (Evans), as well as his sister-in-law, Penny Evans. His legacy continues through his nieces and nephews: Sharline (Evans), Julie Stensgard (Williams) and her husband Peter, Keith Williams, Tim Williams, Danny Williams and his wife Laura (Taylor), and Tina Brown (Williams) and her husband Eric. In addition to these family members, Bob is remembered by many other relatives who were a significant part of his life.  Bob's memory is also cherished by numerous friends who shared in his journey and contributed to the rich tapestry of his life.
