Richard Turpin, age 51, of Naytahwaush, died suddenly on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at the Mahnomen Health Center Hospital.
Richard "Rick" Turpin, son of Ronald Ross and Cheryl Turpin, was born March 5, 1966, in Minneapolis, MN. As a child, Rick attended school in Naytahwaush and Mahnomen, graduating with the class of 1985. After graduation, he moved to Minneapolis and worked at Knox Lumber for a year. He soon returned to the Naytahwaush area, which he loved, and lived ever since. He attended school at Detroit Lakes Vocational Technical Institute, in the electrician program. Over the years, he worked several jobs, but especially enjoyed his current position at Bruggemann's Super Valu, as he loved talking to people. He especially enjoyed teasing the little kids and making them laugh. He often told his family and friends about all the "good sales" that happened in the store.
Rick was well known for his excellent pool playing skills. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, four wheeling and bingo. He loved being outdoors and looked forward to the yearly family hayride. Rick could also be found going for rides in the woods and spending time with family and friends. He had a love for helping people and did many wiring and electrical projects over the years. He even bought a new lawn mower so he could mow lawns for people, followed by stopping in for a visit. He also mowed the lawns at the Episcopal Church and both cemeteries. He had an excellent sense of humor and loved to laugh and joke. He was always pulling pranks on people and loved to see them laugh. He enjoyed spending time with his two special nieces; Tali, his next-door neighbor, who would bring him the mail and spent countless hours playing with him and his dogs: Buck and Shorty; and Amanda "Manders" who teased each other constantly. He loved kids, especially his nieces and nephews and Sandy's grandchildren. They all held a special place in his heart. He will be missed by many, especially his mom, Cheryl, his life partner, Sandy, and his brothers. We don't know God's plan for him, but it broke their hearts to say goodbye.
Rick is survived by his life partner, Sandy Scott of Naytahwaush, MN; his mother, Cheryl of Mahnomen, MN; brothers: Michael Jon Turpin and Nakoa (Kenz) Graff, both of Mahnomen, MN; his half- sister Sonya Wade of Naytahwaush, MN; aunts: Bev (Sandy) Turner, Gayle Turpin, Corrine (Perry) Bellefeuille, Teri Gieske, Lori (Ron) Bailey, and Stephanie Ross; uncle, Reverend George Ross; nieces and nephews: Sarah, Kellie, Zachary, Ava, and Victoria; Sandy's family, Josh Scott, Jennifer (Chad) Scott; grandchildren, Caterina, Chadlee, Chandler and Cali; and great grandchild, Tinley; and many cousins and extended family. He was preceded in death by his dad, Ronald; sister, Billy Jo; grandparents: Bill & Phyllis Turpin and Henry & Bernadine Ross; uncles: Bill, Henry, Mickey, and Jason; and many great aunts and uncles.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, October 14, 2017, at the Anderson Family Funeral Home in Mahnomen.
