Richard G. (Rick) Terway passed away on June 24, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Rick was born on June 14, 1953 in Crookston, MN. He graduated high school in 1971, followed by earning an associate degree from the University of Minnesota, Crookston, and his bachelor's degree from National American University.
Rick was a proud member of the White Earth Indian Nation where his great grandparents helped build St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Beaulieu, MN. He was also an altar boy at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Nay-tah-Waush, MN, where Rick helped serve communion at his grandparents 50th wedding anniversary.
Rick began his professional career as a Park Ranger for the US Forest Service. He then moved on to become a Park Ranger for Washington State, working at several Eastern Washington State Parks. Rick's career and experience continued when he moved into city government beginning in West Bend, WA. He also worked for the cities of Vadnais Heights, MN, and Fergus Falls, MN. Rick and Helen returned to Eastern Washington in 2009 when Rick was hired by the City of Pasco until his retirement in 2018.
Rick was a dedicated Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Golden Gophers fan. He enjoyed watching football and hockey, attending games whenever possible. Rick and Helen enjoyed camping and traveling around the US, Canada, Mexico, and Europe.
Rick is survived by his wife of 34 years, Helen; two stepchildren, Krista Worley and Jeff Worley; his daughter-in-law, Tracy; three grandchildren: Kylie, Braden, and Aubreigh. Also surviving is his sister, Barbara Terway; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Vere and Erma Terway.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the Anderson Family Funeral Home in Mahnomen. There will be fellowship immediately afterwards, followed by a Committal Service at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Beaulieu.
The family suggests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association, or SightLife.
