Richard Rothschadl, age 91, of Dilworth, MN formerly Waubun, MN died on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at Bethany on University in Fargo, ND.
Richard Frank Rothschadl, the son of James Sr. and Anna(Blattenbauer) Rothschadl, was born on February 17, 1924 at home, near Waubun. As a young boy, he attended Hart Country School until he began working with his father on the farm. In 1946, Richard was united in marriage to Margaret Doll at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, in Beaulieu, MN, and the couple made their first home on a small farm near Waubun. In 1953, they moved to Seattle, WA where he worked for a year, before returning home to Minnesota. Richard and Margaret purchased the family farm in 1956 and together they raised dairy cattle and farmed for many years. Over the years, they were also blessed with six children. In 2004, at the age of 80, he sold the farm and they moved into Mahnomen to make their home. Due to failing health, they moved to Dilworth in 2013 to be closer to family.
Richard truly loved farming and cherished working with the land. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Mahnomen Council #2573 and St. Joseph's Catholic Church. He enjoyed playing cards and was an avid Minnesota Twins baseball fan. He always had gardens and spent many hours tending the flowers and vegetables. Some of Richards's favorite pastimes were a good game of horseshoe and bean bag toss with family and friends. When he was able, Richard also loved to snowmobile and dance. Richard was fluent in Bohemian and cherished being able to share the language with others.
Richard is survived by his wife of 68 years, Margaret of Moorhead, MN; one daughter, Sharon Walz of Moorhead; four sons: Gale (Linda) of Dilworth, Rodney (Diane) of Thief River Falls, MN, Richard of Boise, ID, and Randy (Deanne) of Dilworth; his daughter-in-law, Debbie Rothschadl of Dilworth; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
