Richard "Dick" Noll, age 81, of Mahnomen, MN, died Tuesday, August 2, 2016, at Mahnomen Heath Center Nursing Home in Mahnomen.
Richard Frank Noll was born May 17, 1935, the third of five children born to Albert and Mary (Habermann) Noll in Mahnomen, MN. He attended country and public school in the Mahnomen area before graduating from Mahnomen High School with the class of 1953. Following graduation, Dick worked for Gus Bursch as a farmhand, then at the meat packing plant in Fargo, while attending welding school. Employment took Dick to General Motors in Chicago, IL, until he joined the US Army in 1958. After his honorable discharge, Dick worked a couple years in the twin cities doing a variety of jobs before returning to Mahnomen. Upon his return, he began working for Norbert Kochmann, then Solar Gas which later became Cenex. Dick also purchased land near Waubun, MN, with his brother Ervin and began farming. On November 21, 1970, Dick was united in marriage to Margaret "Peggy" Bruggeman at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Mahnomen. They were blessed with five children and in 1971 moved to the farm they still call home today.
Dick was known to frequently visit the lumberyard and John Deere for a good chat and hot cup of coffee. He had a great sense of humor, a unique laugh and always loved a good party and polka music. In his younger years, Dick bowled on a league and never lost interest in dancing when given the opportunity! One of his favorite pastimes, even more so as his health deteriorated, was going for rides to check out the fields or spending time with his faithful canine companion, Annie. Dick and Peggy loved spending time with their family and especially cherished time with their grandchildren. They could often be found playing UNO, checkers or going for a spin on the 4-wheeler. He also enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, and simply mowing his lawn. A lifetime member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Dick also held membership with the Mahnomen American Legion Isaacson-Bjorge Post #31 and served many years on the township board.
Dick is survived by his bride of 45 years, Peggy; his sons: Daniel (Tammy) of Waubun, Patrick (Gina) and Brian both of Mahnomen; his daughter, Kathryn (Derek) Pierce of Jordan, MN; six precious grandchildren: Jacob, Erika (Tanner), Kaden, Marcus, Natalie and Whitney; a brother, Marty (Darlene) Noll of St. Louis Park, MN; a sister, Elaine Noll of Twin Valley and sister-in-law, Arlene Noll of Mahnomen. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Mary; a daughter, Madonna; a brother, Ervin; and sister and brother-in-law, Gladys and Bob Chisholm.
