Richard K. Kjolberg Jr., age 22, of Duluth, MN, died Friday, October 9, 2015, at Essentia Hospital, Duluth.

Richard Keith Kjolberg, Jr., was born July 22, 1993, in Detroit Lakes, MN, to Richard Sr., and Jodi (Miller) Kjolberg. Ricky's early childhood was spent moving to various towns but they settled in the Duluth area. At the young age of five, Ricky had a severe reaction to a vaccine. His family cared for him at home as long as possible, but his declining health required him to spend the past six years in a nursing home. Growing up, Ricky enjoyed all the things boys enjoy like playing video games, especially Grand Theft Auto and listening to music. "Don't Dream it's Over" by Crowded House was his all-time favorite song. Family became an intricate part of Ricky's life. He loved having company and looked forward to times spent with his special cousin, Ortley (Sam). He was a very kind and caring individual who often told his mom, "I Love You Mom and it's always gonna be that way."

Ricky is survived by his mother, Jodi of St. Michael, ND; one brother, Anthony Kjolberg also of St. Michael; two sisters, Brooke Miller of Duluth and Rachel Kjolberg of Eveleth, MN; his grandparents, Mary Oppegard and Randy Miller Sr.; one niece, Emily Rose and one nephew, Ricky; and many aunts, uncles and extended family. Richard was preceded by death by his father, Richard, Grandma and Grandpa Kjolberg, and his cousins, Jordan and Tyler. Ricky will be greatly missed by all his friends and family.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at the Sports Complex in Naytahwaush, MN. Visitation began at 5:00 p.m. on Monday with a service at 7:00 p.m. at the complex and continued until the funeral service. Interment took place at the Traditional Burial Grounds in Naytahwaush.
