Rhoda Georgine Anderson, 99, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2017, at the Carefree Living Center in Ely, MN, surrounded by family. Rhoda was born on December 9, 1917, in Hawley, MN to Anna and Oscar Askelson. She attended country school and worked on neighboring farms until her marriage to Gordon Anderson on June 15, 1941, in Borup, MN. They farmed in the Twin Valley area until 1956 and then moved to the Iron Range where Gordon worked for U.S. Steel until his retirement in 1975. After Gordon's death in 1986, Rhoda returned to Twin Valley where she lived for several years before moving to Ely to be near family. Rhoda enjoyed homemaking and was known for her excellent breads and rolls. She and Gordon enjoyed gardening, fishing and picking blueberries together and loved spending time with their grandchildren. Rhoda was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son-in-law, Daniel; four brothers and six sisters. She is survived by her four children: Ronald (Betty) Anderson, Robertsdale, AL., Linda (Sheldon) Klobuchar, Ely, MN, LaVonne Garcia, Richfield, MN, Rodney (Terry) Anderson, Minneapolis, MN; five grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; three great-step-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends. Our heartfelt thanks to the staff of Carefree Living in Ely, Dr. James Montana and St. Mary's Hospice for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, memorials of your choice preferred. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Twin Valley.
